She was standing there with a gun to her head when it happened. She was never one to back down, and so even now, facing death, she was staring him right in the eyes.

His were the last eyes she would ever look into, but that was okay. She knew what would happen when she chose this path. So she was standing there, looking into his dark, expressive eyes, eyes that had faced too much for the boy to handle, more than he could face alone, and so it had caused him to snap.

While looking into his eyes - out of determination, fear, curiosity, sadness - she imagined herself looking into someone else's eyes; someone else's eyes who, if she were honest with herself, she would prefer be the last she ever looked into. She was surprised to discover, however, that the pair before her morphed into the pair she was longing for.

The dark, lonely, tortured eyes in front of her, became the wise, guiding, comforting eyes she had been able to look into for so many years, eyes she could feel on her now from just a hundred yards away.

They weren't so different, she realized. They had different ways of going about getting what they wanted, and different goals in mind, but they were driven by the same determination. She had fallen in love with the determined glint that so often came from the eyes she longed for. She was staring at the same look right now, though the person behind these eyes was determined to bring about her demise.

They were the same though, father and son. In another world, he would have been his father's second; they would have been unstoppable. Here, though... here, she was about to die.

And so it was with him counting down the last seconds of her life, with his gun to her head; it was staring into the eyes of the man before her, his eyes; it was when she knew that she would die, that she told him what she had discovered:

"You know you have your father's eyes."

This was just floating through my head one morning and I wrote it down. It's not particularly happy or anything, just what I think Wash might have been thinking. Please review and let me know your thoughts on it.
