Hello, welcome to my REVISED version of Primordial Trickery. Yeah, I was looking over the story a while ago and the only thing running through my mind was 'WHAT IN POSEIDON'S NAME WAS I DOING WHEN I WROTE THIS?' so I'll be fixing all the mistakes and adding things in. Enjoy,

Primordial Trickery
Chapter 1: ~The Dream
After the giant war my life started on a steady incline. Once Gaea was defeated the Roman and Greek camps decided to join together to make one even larger camp, complete with roman temples, weapons, dishes, war games, and fauns. An enormous amount of demigods began pouring in, courtesy of the newly trained fauns helping out. There were barely any monster attacks. Everything, for the first time in years, was finally peaceful.
I should have known it was too good to last.
The beginning of the end started with a dream. It had been an ordinary day at camp, same activities, same campers and same Annabeth. Nothing to suggest anything extraordinary would happen.
That night, however, as I entered my cabin I felt like someone was watching me. I did a quick turn, using my heightened reflexes to scan the shadows around me. Nothing suspicious. But I kept my guard up as I got ready for 'lights out'. You started to trust your 'demigod instinct' after a few years of being attacked by monsters.
I plopped down onto my bed and ran my hands through my hair. I seriously needed to relax. But I just couldn't, my mind kept wandering back to that bad feeling steadily growing in the pit of my stomach. So I tried to focus on something else.
I thought about Annabeth; he blonde curls, tan skin, killer attitude, and constant lemony smell. I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
"Percy, stop. Please!" Annabeth laughed as I hit her with another wave of water. Her eyes glinted in the evening sunlight, shining like diamonds. She made a half attempted retreat to the beach, winding her arms around herself to keep away the cold.
I grinned crookedly. It took me a long while to persuade Annabeth to come swimming with me in the lake, I wasn't going to let her go so easily. "Whatever you say, Wisegirl." Instead of splashing her I ran to my girlfriend and scooped her up into my arms.
She shrieked and laughed as I turned her upside-down. "Stop, stop, please! Percy!"
I set Annabeth down gently on the sand, kissing her softly on top of her blonde curls. "Oh, I can't say no to you," I smiled.
Annabeth smiled warmly and wrapped her arms around my neck. But her happy expression melted away as she fixed her gaze on a point somewhere above my shoulder. "Percy!"
I spun, frantically searching my pockets for Riptide, my ever-faithful sword, only to find it wasn't there. And neither was the monster. "Come on, Annabeth. Don't scare-" I cut myself off as I realized that I was alone. There was no trace of Annabeth on the beach.
I called frantically for her, to receive no answer. I could feel my heart beating in my chest. Where was she?
Suddenly the ground underneath me opened up, swallowing me. Now I was falling, fast down a wide, dark hole. Tartarus. I was going back to Tartarus but this time Annabeth wouldn't be coming with me.
I heard laughter. It filed the hole, so loud it made me want to tear off my ears. I flailed frantically in the air, trying to reach the stone walls of the cavern. Luckily I was closer than I thought. I hooked my arm around a weirdly bent piece of rock and fought gravity's eternal pull.
Strange, the rock almost looked like...
Gaia's eyes opened and she drew in a breath through her nose, almost throwing me off of it. "Hello young demigod," she said in a voice that was older than time itself.
"No! You can't be here! You're dead!"
The earth goddess smiled, looking at me with black eyes. "I might be gone, but the idea of me is eternal."
I gripped her nose, digging my nails into the suddenly soft earth. "Leave me alone!" I cried. I was 101% done with evil goddesses. "Go and never bother the demigods again, you fiend!"
"I have a quest for you, Perseus Jackson son of Poseidon." She sounded neutral. Apparently she was used to threats from angry half-gods.
I scoffed, regretting the action as my hands slipped further down the giant earthen body part. "Like I will be doing anything for you," I said sarcastically. "Face it, Gaia. You have nothing on me; you can't force me to do anything anymore."
"Or can I." I could hear the sneer. from my position near her eyes. "Jackson, you will do it or your friends will die. Or how about your mother? I hear she lives in New York. Simple enough."
Liquid ice filled my veins. I squashed down my growing panic and forced myself to sound remotely brave."But you can't. You have no power anymore. Your army is dead! I destroyed you!"
"Oh, I won't be doing the killing, no, but I have a fresh army monsters that will be more than happy to do it for me," she laughed. "You really thought that you won? I am more pwerful than any prison, as long as the earth goes on so shall I. The monsters had never really left, they were just waiting for my command."
I knew now that I had no way out. I couldn't protect everyone I cared about at the same time and there was no way we would be able to fight another war so soon after the other. Many demigods still bore the physical and psychological scars of the Giant war. "Fine, you win. I'll do it."
"Good. I knew that was good enough reason for you. Now listen closely, I need you to go back to Hubbard Glacier. I believe it is where you freed the insuffereable god of death. There is something that I left there I might need in the future. Of course, I assure you that its nothing dangerous," she purred. "Leave now. Don't tell a soul that you are leaving, anyone who finds out will be murdered. Now be on your way. If you do not meet my requirements exactly then someone shall die."
My eyes snapped open. I was completely drenched in sweat, soaking through my shirt and into the mattress. I sat up weakly, trying to regain my barings against the raging headache pounding in my skull. Surely that was just a dream? A bad nightmare, but it wasn't real.
I forced myself to calm down, taking big breaths through my mouth. That's right, Jackson, just a bad dream. I ran my hand through my hair, suddenly becoming aware of how rough it felt.
I brought my palms up to my face, squinting to make them out in the dark. They were covered in something that wasn't sweat. Something dark and sticky and packed with loose particles.
My hands were covered in dirt. It was then that I knew I was in trouble. But really, I rationed, it wasn't just me. If Gaia had a way of controlling an army from wherever she was now, then it was a lot bigger than me, or the demigods or gods. This was a threat to the entire world.
I stumbled backwards in shock, bumping up against the Iris message fountain. That couldn't have happened. It couldn't have.
But even as I denied the thought, it took root in my head. All of the puzzle pieces slipped into place, pointing a very obvious arrow in the direction of Hubbard Glacier.
I quietly packed a bag, muttering denials every few seconds even as I worked. The digital clock beside me read 1:12 am. Perfect for making an unseen getaway.
I left my cabin silently. The moon was full, casting enough light to see but not enough to tip off the harpies. Chances are they wouldn't be out looking for straglers at this time, it was far too late for even the most devious of campers to be up.
And then there was me. Sneaking through camp with a bag packed with enough drachmas and denarii for me to hitch a ride with the gray sisters for a trans-continental trip. I knew how bad this would be for me if everyone found out. The hero of Olympus, leaving camp in the middle of the night for Alaska to do a favour for Gaia. No doubt Zeus would just strike him down where he stood for treason against the gods if anybody found out.
I needed someone I could trust to get me to Alaska. Everyone could be bribed with enough money or promise of power. Everyone except... I changed direction abruptly. I knew exactly who to talk to.
Anybody who could have been watching would almost say that my smile was devilish.
'Hey Blackjack.'
My Pegasus' head swiveled around, looking at me with an expression that could only be described as confused. 'Boss? What the Hades are you doing up? Dontcha' know what those harpies willd do to you if they catch a whif of demigod? Half-blood, medium rare; that's what!' he communicated to me, ruffling his feathers frantically.
'Blackjack, I will by you a freaking castle made of sugar-cubes if you can take me to Hubbard Glacier without telling anyone, especially Annabeth. But you have to promise me that this trip stays between you and me, alright?'
'Sure thing, Boss. So Hubb- wait. What? Hubbard Glacier? You can't be serious! That place is in Alaska, beyond the gods powers. You'd have a better chance with the harpies!' Blackjack was stamping his feet urgently now. He gave a high-pitched whinny of fear.
'Blackjack, calm down. Please!" I communicated quietly. The other pegasi were beginning to panic as well, sensing the black pagasus' distress. 'It's important! Very important! You know I wouldn't ask you unless it was completely necessary!'
I could basically hear him sighing. 'Alright, but you owe me.'
'Thanks, buddy. I swear, I'll by you an entire bag of sugar when we get back.'
'Yeah, yeah. Let's just get this show on the road already.'
I grinned at him and climbed aboard, trying to mind the feathers. The one thing I don't like about Pegasus riding is the feathers. They were everywhere and I always managed to get a mouthful of them.
'You don't even understand how much you owe me right now.' Blackjack deftly navigated the stables with all the swiftness a horse could manage. 'If you get caught, I wasn't even here. Kapheesh?'
My fingers wound themselves into his mane. 'Whatever you say, Blackjack,' I horse-spoke to him with a laugh.
We took off through the night sky and over the sleeping camp.
I was starting to feel really guilty for making Blackjack carry me all this way. We covered miles and miles in less that a night, cities and oceans blurring beneath us. Me and Blackjack tried to make small talk, frequently resulting in me severing the conversation after my pegasus would get a little too close to the topic of why we were traveling.
The sun was rising by the time Alaska came into view. I smiled at the memories of Hazel and Frank that it brought up. We'd definitely had some fun times here, if your definition of fun included freeing death, almost being eaten by earth, fighting a ghost army, and me nearly taking a permanent swim vacation.
'Okay, boss, this is as far as I'll take you.'
My head bobbed into a nod. I hadn't seriously expected him to ake me all the way to Hubbard Glacier. Not even my daredevil pegasus would tempt fate in such a blatant way. 'No problem Blackjack. Thanks a lot. I'll catch you later?'
Blackjack was too drained to give more than a halfhearted nod. With a running start that looked more like an ungainly shuffle, he took off into the sky. Soon he was nothing more than a black speck amongst the clouds.
I swung my head around, letting the sun catch my sea green eyes. I would have to do Gaia's stupid favour and find a way to get back quickly, before anyone noticed and raised an alarm.
The glacier wasn't far. I soared across the waves, using them like a beach bum would a surfboard. With a large pinwheel motion, a large whitecap threw me onto Hubbard Glacier.
The place hadn't changed much. it was still desolate and cold, which I really wasn't expecting. It was entirely empty except for one wooden chest in the very middle. I slid across the ice over to the chest. Letting curiosity get the best of me I heaved the oak trunk open to reveal... dirt?
No not just dirt, Stones and mud and chunks of clay. Earth, I thought to myself absentmidedly. That's when the pieces slid into place. I stumbled back from the chest, wrestling my sword out from my pocket.
Then the laughter started. The same laughter from my dream. It bounced back at me until I was sure there was more than one person laughing. A figure bult itself up from the earth in the chest. A torso bloomed into the familiar head and shoulders of the earth goddess, Gaia.
A trap. It was all a trap.
WOW! I feel so awesome right now. So many words...
I have a bit of a problem at the moment. I accidentally deleted the last two chapters of this story before I could convert them into docs (yeah stupid I know) so I only have 6 chapters instead of 8. So If ANYONE could help me, if they know of a way that I can get them back, or if they have the story save on something, PLEASE DROP ME A REVIEW!
So I'll b bringing you guys the next revised chapter soon, maybe even a bit sooner if you review ;D
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
