Taylor Swift sits alone at a table on the patio of her hotel's restaurant. The afternoon sun is relentlessly bright, and her headache can't handle it. Not now.
Her first marriage in tatters, she's come to France to escape the relentless glare of the paparazzi. The divorce papers will reach her husband in a matter of hours. It's over now. It's been so long since she's wished for anything other than this life. It's all she ever wanted, to live happily ever after.
And here she is, alone again, tasting the salty sea air in Marseille, and trying so badly to forget everything she ever knew, and everything she ever was. The waiter asks for her order, and she aimlessly points at something on the menu.
"Mes putains croissants. Très bon."
She stares, aimlessly at the sea, wondering what she should do now. Who can she trust now? Who will tell her the truth?
The croissants come out unfathomably fast. She barely even notices as the waiter puts the plate on her table. And as she looks at them, she almost chokes, because she's never seen anything so beautiful in her entire life.
There are two perfect petite croissants, placed just slightly askew on the plate. The folds are so gentle, so beautiful they look as if they were made by the hand of God himself. The crust is so firm, yet soft that she can't hold herself still as she reaches for one.
Her hands tremble, like the first time she plucked a guitar at the age of twelve, uncertain but eager. As she pulls one of the croissants apart, she sees how fluffy, how light, how perfect the insides are. The steam wafts upwards, and she suddenly remembers her first song, her first love, her first kiss, and she finds herself, suddenly, silently crying uncontrollably in the middle of a hotel restaurant in France.
"Things used to be, now they not. Right?"
She hears the voice before she sees him, and remembers his rich voice, from years ago. She wipes an eye clean and looks up, and sees him in his bright chef's whites.
"Kanye?"
He smiles a soft, forgiving, knowing, understanding smile at her, and offers her his hand. And suddenly she feels like she's seeing the face of God. And she takes his hand, and as he walks her out of the restaurant, she whispers to him.
"Beyonce did have one of the greatest videos of all time."
