Losing House
Chase held their youngest son in his arms, cradling him gently as his eyes closed in grief.
"I miss Papa," Justin sobbed as Chase shook with the anger and soul-piercing of one whose love was taken from them.
"I know," Chase sobbed. "I know." he said.
"Dad," Elizabeth walked in, tears flowing down her face. "Daddy," she joined them in a hug, clinging to Chase and her brother desperately.
Justin pulled apart and sat down on the couch in his suit, looking grim and sad and Olivia finally came downstairs, finally dressed.
"I want Papa," Olivia said fiercely, eyes wet and red-rimmed in her grief.
"Is Jamie ready to go?" Chase asked, referring to Olivia's twin brother. Olivia nodded and picked up her purse from beside the couch before sitting down next to Justin and putting the purse on her lap. Just then Jamie came down stairs and Chase gave him the keys, knowing he couldn't drive himself, not at this point in time. Jamie was like Him, he was calm right now and able to look after the others.
"Is everyone ready?" Jamie asked calmly as if he were merely taking them all to the movies. Chase tried to hold it in but lost it as he saw House, the love of his life, the father of his children, in their oldest son's eyes.
"Dad," Elizabeth came over and grasped Chase's arm, leading him out to the car, supporting him and clinging to him.
The drive was silent except for their grief and they drove to the funeral-home in a short ten minutes.
"Chase," Cameron came over with her husband Wilson and their two sons to embrace the grieving Chase-House family. Cuddy was there as well, with Rachel and her son-in-law, as was Taub and his wife and the Foreman family, and every other team House had in the last twenty years and their families. Not only them were there either, the funeral home was packed by the time the service started and Chase simply couldn't believe that House had managed to truly touch so many lives during his own.
It was such a tremendous blessing to have so many who cared as much for House as they did, Chase was grateful as he watched Wilson get up to speak, that their friend had consented to give the speech as he couldn't bring himself to calmly talk about his dead husband in front of so many who cared for him.
"What can I say about House?" Wilson began. "He was...in many ways, a complete bastard. But he was a brilliant doctor and deep down, though he professed not to, he did care about his patients. He cared about everyone but...in his own way. I won't speak very long as I know House and I know he would hate it if we sat around crying for him. All I want to say is that he was cared about by so many more than he himself would ever expect to. As House would say, you can't always get what you want. But...in the end, he got what he needed." With that, Wilson pressed a button on a remote and the song started up, a different version, a slower, more melancholy version.
You can't always get what you want. You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you get what you need.
A/N: It's not very good but I needed to write this. In the last two weeks, I've lost a close friend and just recently, my uncle. I'm having a little bit of a hard time right now. I needed to write something to help me process. I may turn the Chase-House family into a story though.
