The Report

Nick Fury, Director of SHEILD, was sat in his office. His laptop was humming quietly nearby, displaying a moving slide show of images. Directly in front of him was an open file and his hand hung over it holding a pen loosely.

A picture was paper clipped to it, of a teenage girl. Her hair was red and cut off just before her collar bones and her green eyes shone from the glossy paper.

Name: Eleanor Fury

Codename: Ember

Project: The Avengers initiative

Status: MIA

Nick Fury hadn't seen his adoptive daughter in a full year caused by a cave-in during an unneeded fight against Captain America's lifelong enemy HYDRA. He found himself hating Steve for that, almost as much as he hated himself for bringing her into it.

There was a swift knock on the door followed by Coulson's entrance.

"Parkers back, Director. He met the rest of his team."

"Oh really? His reaction?"

"Not good. It might be a deal breaker. He's determined to work alone. The rest of them don't seem to like him very much either."

Nick put the pen down, linked his hands together and leaned against them. "It's none negotiable. He is unpredictable and a total idiot. He needs more people to be responsible for, so he doesn't end up killing himself or worse."

"Like giving a kid a puppy?" Coulson quipped.

Nick smirked before getting back to business. "Has the old headmaster been moved on yet?"

Coulson nodded. "I'm firmly ensconced as the new principle of Midtown High. The kids will be safe there."

"Good." He didn't want any other person to feel his pain. He was determined to keep the kids in his charge safe and making Coulson the new headmaster of their school was the safest way to do that.

"Is that Ellie's file?" Coulson asked.

Nick nodded. "She disappeared one year ago today." He reminded him.

"I've been thinking about her. Everyone has. We all miss her."

"Yeah." He rubbed his hands over his forehead. "I'll go barter with Parker in a minute, just got to do this first."

"Right, I'll wait outside." Coulson left and Nick stared down at Ellie's smile.

He felt guilty for giving up on her, as he pulled the lid off his pen, but it was quite impossible that she survived the cave-in and hadn't come back to them.

Nick made the decision. He put his pen to paper and wrote this:

Status: MIA, presumed dead

Author note: I got some explaining to do. For some unknown reason, Coulson is alive in the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon series but its set after the Avengers movie and seeing as I bloody LOVE Coulson I'm definitely ignoring the fact that Loki killed him in the movie. I'm going to try to knit both the lore's together as close as possible but if I make any mistakes (lore wise or grammar related) I won't be angry for you telling me. I promise.
