This is a poem I created for the book "The Golden Compass". It takes place in the laboratory where they experiment on the children and their daemons, from Lyra's perspective. The theme is when she sets fire to the building so she and the others can escape.Hope you like!

Here I stand in fear and fire

In tire

Of all the sorrow, all the cold

And heartless that are taking hold

Of our innocence, our love of life

And putting it in deadly strife

Now I wish we could all be free

Free from their clutching hands, to let us be

For what they do is horrifying and frightful,

It is quite spiteful

They might not understand but it is wrong

Wrong to divide us from our lifelong companion, from whence we were so strong

And now here I stand in utter confusion

With yelling and running, and then there was an intrusion

Of bad men sent to get us back, with their wolf daemons in a howl

It seemed like it was the end, the smell of defeat was foul

But then came a mighty growl

And a bright flash of white blinded my eyes

And I knew then, and my hope was revised

I knew my bear had come to save us

Out of this fuss

Of a mess, to lead us out

To freedom and home: I had no doubts

That this huge armored bear was untouchable, that he no one could harm

And within a few moments, all the wolves were dead, to the scientist's alarm

And the bad men died with them right away

Chance now there is, we may

Get out from the burning building, into the icy frost

And with my strong and clever bear we will not get lost

But soon will be found in open arms that missed us greatly

In our homes which we have been missing from lately

They will go home, but I then will stay

Here, for my bear to come back this way

My love for my protector is undying

As it is for my dear Pan, and I will never stop tying

My admiration and devotion around his scarred heart of steel

For he gives me a flicker or life, a virtue that is real
