Author's Note: Hey everyone, I hope summer has gotten off to a great start. This is a short work I did over 5 years ago(man do I feel old xD) but it was on another fanfiction site and I thought it might be better off here. Some of you who are reading my newest fanfic "Love, Me" might see a recap of this coming up in the next few chapters, so keep a close eye out for it. Thanks for the reviews and for reading it 3
Into the
West
Loveless 19
As Lily watched Harry sleep in a cramped bedroom in her sister's house, she let a silent tear pass down her cheek. He looked so much like James as Sirius had said. She had been granted time to visit earth, and to help comfort Harry through his troubled sleep. This past year had put Harry over the edge; after loosing the only father figure he had ever had other than maybe Dumbledore, Harry had become withdrawn and sad. That was why she was here now, although he couldn't see her she could see him, and be there for a comfort to help keep him living. Lily thought back to all the times she had sang to him many songs that she knew he might never hear again, but one stuck out clearly, one that fit perfect for the way Harry was feeling. And so she began to sing, she knew if he was awake he wouldn't here her but he would in his dreams and that was what she wanted.
Lay
down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have
come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came
before
They are calling
From across a distant shore
She and James had watched him grow from afar and seen all the pain he had been through and they grieved every time he suffered.
Why do you
weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will
see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're
only sleeping
Lily knew Harry was lonely, he didn't have any family, and he had just lost the one person he had had a real conversation about his parents with. It was like Harry was lost and didn't know where to turn to next.
What can you see
On the
horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale
moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will
turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
As she watched Harry sleep, tossing and turning sweating from a nightmare; Lily thought back to when he was just a baby, and how even then he would toss and turn in his sleep. Back then it made her smile at how sweet he looked, but now it made her sad to think of what terrors lay inside his dreams.
All Souls
pass
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows
falling
Out of memory and time
Lily knew that one day she would be able to see Harry again face to face but until then she would have to be satisfied with watching him from a distance.
Don't
say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You
and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just
sleeping
As Lily finished her song she bent down and kissed Harry on the cheek and then turning to go she turned around and heard Harry say as if he was awake "Thanks Mum, I miss you and dad so much, please tell Sirius I miss him terribly and I wish he was here to goof off with me. Thanks." Then falling back asleep Lily saw the lipstick mark where she had kissed Harry. Her Harry, not the-boy-who-lived, not James Potter's son, but her Harry, the one she had carried for eight straight months. The baby boy who had a mop of black hair and horrible vision, but she didn't care. She loved him and she always would.
