Because god knows that we need more love. Remember the 'golden days' of S1? I sure miss them...

Back To You

Today it was Stefan and Caroline's turn to watch over Elena's still body.

He wasn't quite certain why they were doing so, but Bonnie explained that it might help them all cope with their loss. Sighing, the younger Salvatore remembered meeting with Caroline in the hallway moments earlier, as though they were switching guard duty or something, nodding at her as she passed him on her way to the Grill, probably looking for a drink. Much like his brother, the blonde had taken to drinking her sorrows and pain away. He wanted to help his friend cope but how could he possibly help her when he couldn't even help himself?

His eyes drifted to the seemingly fragile brunette and he bit his lip. She wanted them to be happy. Those were her last words, no matter how unspoken they were. Yet despite how fragile she looked, Elena was neat too. Stefan knew all too well that was because Bonnie and Caroline would come nearly everyday to wash her hair, bath her and change her clothes, in vain hopes that if their best friend woke up, it would be to a clean body and decent clothes. Stefan couldn't really blame them since Damon didn't even want to come near the brunette. He couldn't really blame his brother. The elder did feel guilty after realizing that he had never truly loved Elena all along, feeling like he had strung her with him all these years. His developing feelings for Bonnie could be a factor too.

Stefan never gave up hope. Elena had told him to remember that she would always love him. Like a fool (perhaps he was one but he didn't seem to care anymore) he trusted her words as he watched her frockle around with Damon over the years. He liked to imagine that her eyes, those chocolate brown orbs, held a certain light of sincerity in them meant only for him before they closed... forever. The mere notion that Elena might never wake up didn't sit well with Stefan. The brunette was a fighter, not a quitter. No, the thought that she wouldn't wake never crossed his mind. That would mean giving up and the Elena he knew would never do that. He jumped slightly when he heard the door of the bedroom behind him open and turned around to see Damon and Bonnie arrive, both with sad smiles meant for him. They didn't hurt anymore either.

"Is it time?" he asked, eyeing the clothes in Bonnie's arms. When she nodded, he and his brother walked out in silence, giving the witch some privacy to change her best friend's clothes again. It took Damon a while to say anything but when he did, the first words out of his mouth were worry for him. Much like always over the course of the last three months.

"Are you doing well?"

"Yes, I ..." Bonnie's scream of shock made them both freeze before they ran back into the room (Damon first, of course, there was no questioning him when it came to the girl's safety) and the sight that greeted them stunned them even further. Stefan couldn't speak at all as Bonnie ran over to Damon and hugged him, tears of happiness in her eyes.

Elena Gilbert was sitting up on her bed, the fresh shirt in her hands as her eyes sparkled in a teasing manner when she saw Bonnie clinging to Damon before she looked at Stefan and a smile formed itself on her lips.

"I'm back."
