AN: This is Honeystorm's actual backstory. Her story is detailed in "New Times, New Struggles."
Fawnstar Speaks
Honeystorm could have had a different name. I could have named her Honeystream, or Honeyflower. Or even Honeyfur. But I didn't. I named her Honeystorm, and I'll tell you my reasons why.
Honeystorm has been my loyal deputy for several moons, now, and I know that she will be the right leader. But her past has been slightly troubling, to say the least. As a kitten, she was stubborn and would throw tantrums to get her way. Thankfully, her father, Nightclaw, reigned her in. I gave her Cherryfoot as a mentor because I believed that she could handle then-Honeykit's energy, stubbornness, and ability. She had lots of potential, but she wasted it.
As an apprentice, she demonstrated a natural swimming ability and I would assign Emberstream to help then-Honeypaw learn to swim. However, then-Honeypaw didn't throw her heart into it, and by the time she was a warrior, she was a good swimmer, better than most of the Clan, but not nearly as good as Emberstream. That is why she isn't Honeystream.
She demonstrated an ability to work with kits, but by the time there were kits in the Clan, she was already a warrior for a moon, and it was too late to change her name. That is why she isn't Honeyflower.
Had it not been for her personality, I would have named her Honeyfur. But she has a strong personality. She is loyal and stubborn, with a fiery temper that we have all experienced. I still remember when, as an apprentice, then-Honeypaw got into a fight with a ShadowClan apprentice, and they almost came to blows. At a Gathering, no less!
But despite her occasional laziness, she would throw herself into her training when she felt like it, occasionally forfeiting sleep to perfect a hunting or fighting move, or to figure out how best to climb a tree. Despite her not liking climbing down, a feeling that I myself have experienced, she figures out how to get down without jumping, something that I admire her for.
However, she occasionally struggles to think outside the box and apply her previous experience, something which I try to help her with. I know that when I retire or leave for StarClan, I will leave her in good paws: those of her Clanmates, whom she will be able to rely upon.
This ends my story of why Honeystorm is who she is today.
