Into Darkness (155 Words)
by Marlen
~~~~~~
Guilt eats away at him.
Stripping away nonexistent armor -- leaving him exposed.
Too many lives lost to a destiny he could not have predicted.
Or could he?
Were the signs of Earth's demise there all along?
So many times he was warned not to pursue.
What if he did as asked?
Just once.
Would fate re-align?
Millions of lives spared?
He will never know.
Instead, his eyes are forever stained by the massacres.
Their blood on his hands.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
He was so desperate to believe.
To prove that he was right.
He got what he wanted.
Now he drowns in a sea of regret...going deeper and deeper until
no light can penetrate his misery.
Not even that of his love -- lost in the battle.
The greatest of tragedies.
She was his strength.
His truth.
His light.
Now he lies in obscurity and begs an end to this suffering.
~end~
