Hey! This is a EmxSeylin fanfiction, written in under ten minutes by me, Serendipity Princess! It's set after Hollow Kingdom but BEFORE Close Kin. Anyway, diclaimer:
Marak: This girl does, in no way, shape or form, own me or any of the rest of the Hollow Kingdom series. If she did, it would probably be based on Blackwing...or Seylin...
Serendipity: (fumes) Would not! And Blackwing is just cool, alright? Leave me alone.
Marak: Now, you little humans, don't sue...(walks off laughing)
"Seylin, Seylin!" Em exclaimed, her brown eyes shining as they sat on the shore of Hollow Lake. "Can we play hide and seek?"
"Em, we're leashed together by a ten foot leashing spell. There's no point in it." Seylin agued. "We'd only be able to hide really close together, and that's no fun."
"Hmmph." Emily grumbled. "The leashing spell ruins everything for us!"
"You know the King is only trying to protect you." Seylin looked around in the murky shadows. He could see everything clearly, but Em certainly couldn't. That's what the moon globe in his palm was for.
"Protect me from what? The spell's only there to keep me from running off, and you know that as well as I!" They had had this argument before, and Emily readied herself for a rolling of her eyes when Seylin replied with his usual "not true!"
But Seylin surprised her, and himself, by asking "Would you go back If we weren't leashed?"
She considered his question for a minute. "I don't think so, Seylin. I don't know anybody back home anymore. Not really."
"But, say you did go back. Would you miss everything?" He persisted.
"What kind of question is that? Of course I would! I gave up everything to come with Kate! And I'd miss Marak ,and Catspaw, and Agatha, and the pages, and babysitting! And watching the King's Guard change! And, oh, Til and Helen. And Dog. And lots more!"
"So you wouldn't miss me?" he asked, sounding hurt.
"Of course not!" Emily laughed. "What a stupid question!"
"Why not? I thought we were best friends, Emily!" he turned to her, looking for the world as if she had just slapped him.
Emily, not noticing the look on the sensitive boy's face, laughed. "You idiot! I wouldn't miss you because you'd be coming with me! I can't miss someone who's right there!"
The reproached expression left Seylin's face all at once. He laughed. "You'd take me with you? Em, that's either the dumbest or the sweetest thing you've ever told me!"
"Aw, thanks, Seylin! But I don't see what's so stupid or sweet about wanting a pet cat!"

And Marak Sixfinger, who had seen the entire thing in the water mirror, just threw back his head and laughed.

Well, how'd I do? I thought I kept them both in character pretty well. Seylin's kind of stunned at the end, and I left it open ended anyway. But there you go.
