"Zoro!"
The room was clouded over by smoke, fire raging everywhere.
"Sanji! Nami!"
Luffy couldn't feel the heat, even as the flames licked at his arms.
"Usopp! Robin!"
That scared him even more.
"Chopper!"
Luffy couldn't find anyone. He couldn't even see three feet in front of him. The smoke was billowing into his lungs, making him choke. He was barely able to breathe.
No. He had to keep going. He had to find them.
But it was raining now and the fire was diminishing. How long had it been going on? Luffy wasn't sure how long he had even been looking for his nakama. Everything was fuzzy. Who was he looking for?
"Luffy."
Luffy spun around. His eyes lit up. "Zoro!"
Standing in front of him was his first mate.
"Zoro, where is everyone? Are they okay?"
Zoro stared at Luffy, his face cold, uncaring, and ruthless.
"You killed us."
What? Luffy could see now, though, that his friend was becoming more and more translucent. He was disappearing right in front of him.
"You didn't look hard enough," Zoro said, unsheathing one of his katana. "I thought you said you cared about us."
"I do!" Luffy shouted, running up to the man. "I do care! I love you all! You're my nakama! I looked everywhere for you!"
"No you didn't!" Zoro bellowed. "If you looked everywhere you would have found us! You would have saved us!"
Luffy backed up, terrified. He was against the railing now, deep swirling waves below him.
Zoro pulled out a second katana and advanced. Luffy whimpered. "Zoro…"
Everything was numb. It was all turning black. He couldn't even remember what any of his crew looked like anymore…
"Luffy! Wake up!"
Luffy bolted upright. Looking around wildly, he screamed, "No! Fire!"
"Luffy, calm down! Stop squirming!"
Something was pinning his down.
"No!"
"Stop! Luffy! Wake up, you idiot!"
Luffy stiffened. Focusing his eyes, he found Zoro and Usopp staring at him with a mixture of fear and annoyance. "Usopp. Zoro…"
Luffy scrambled up and hugged both of them. "You're okay!"
"Okay? Of course we're okay," Usopp said, confused.
Luffy let go of them.
"I think you had a nightmare," Zoro said.
Luffy wouldn't look at him. "Yeah."
Zoro noticed. "Oi, Usopp."
"Yeah?"
"Go tell Nami that he's okay. She's probably worried."
"No she's not," Usopp said but stood when Zoro shot him a glare. "B-But you never know! I'll go let her know right away."
When Usopp had gone, Zoro turned his attention back to Luffy. "What happened? Why won't you look at me?"
"You… Zoro…" Luffy didn't want to say it, didn't want to tell the man.
"Luffy…"
Luffy finally looked up at him. He was staring quietly at Luffy, waiting for him to answer. There was no malice or anger in his face. Just calm curiosity and worry for his captain who so rarely acted this way.
"You hated me," Luffy mumbled, gaze returning to the floor. "I think you killed me."
"That was in the nightmare, Luffy," Zoro said quietly. "Not in the real world."
"It felt real."
"It wasn't," Zoro said. Luffy still didn't look at him and he frowned. "Please look at me, Luffy. I don't hate you."
"I know," Luffy sighed. He looked up and smiled at the man in front of him. "You love me, right?"
Zoro nodded. "Right."
Luffy reached out and hugged him. "And you'll never leave me."
Zoro pressed his hand into Luffy's dark hair and placed a kiss on his forehead. "I'll never leave. Ever."
