Marshall Lee
"I wonder when Fionna's gonna get here," Marshall Lee sighs, floating upside down under the shade of the forest's trees.
"Guess I have to entertain myself for a bit." He grins, dropping onto an oblivious civilian of the Candy Kingdom, relishing in the scream they produce before erupting in laughter as they bolt away as fast as their little legs can carry them.
Fionna
"Baby-cakes, I know you're excited to see Gumball, but you should probably go fully dressed." Fionna, almost out the door, looks down.
"What in Aaa do you-" She stops her inquiry a she notices she is missing one of her trademark thigh-high socks.
"Oh no, not again…" She mumbles, glancing around the room in an attempt to find the missing piece of clothing.
"Hon, it's in your pillow. Where it always is." Cake explains patiently, pulling the sock out as proof. The adventuress hurriedly slips it on, giving her helper a quick kiss on the forehead.
"Thanks a ton, Cake!" With a short wave, Fionna dances out of their treehouse.
While on the way to Gumball's palace, she decides to take a pit stop in the forest to catch up with her vampire friend.
"Marshall Lee?" Fionna scans the forest around her, trying to spot the red-clad vampire king.
"You won't scare me, so don't bother!" She adds after he doesn't respond. Though she claims such with confidence, she begins to feel the strings of dread pulling at the deepest recesses of her heart.
"Fi…" She perks up when she catches her name on the wind, carried by Marshall's voice. Worried at the pitiful tune of it, however, she picks up her pace towards the call.
"Marshall, did you get yourself hurt?" She semi-chuckles, a little amused at the thought of someone like the Ice Queen even posing a threat to the vampire. When Fionna hears a harsh cough from his direction, she begins to run, previous sense of terror rising up to her throat, making it hard to breathe.
She desperately dashes through the forest, tree branches scratching at her face and arms. Suddenly she is falling, tumbling across the leafy floor. As she slowly helps herself up, a groan emits from the floor behind her. On her knees, she turns to find Marshall Lee, the source of her fall, flat on his back and covered in dirt and scrapes.
"Marshall! Why the glob did you trick me!" She yells, tears collecting in her sapphire eyes.
"Sorry…" He starts to apologize, not yet sitting up.
"Sorry? That's not- I thought you were really hurt!" When the vampire still does not rise, she begins to wonder. Marshall was never sorry… And it wasn't like him to be so quiet after a prank.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but that wasn't-" He breaks off as he tries to sit up, resulting in another set of coughs.
"A joke…" He sways with his words, beginning to topple over. Before he can fall again, Fionna catches him, holding his head against her chest.
"Marshall!" She gasps when she looks down to find her friend covered in red. Not only the color, but the warm, slowly congealing liquid life as well. Kneeling with skinned shins and Marshall laying unconscious against her, Fionna really thinks that they may be done for.
