The sound of laughter drifted up from the street below, making him feel very alone in this new town. If he couldn't tell that they were happy by the aura they radiated, then the fireworks, music and dancing polluting the town surely gave him the hint.
He stood a good couple of miles away from the crowd; not for the purpose of trying to go unnoticed but in order to underline his position as an outcast. For that was all he was, an outcast. Though simply because he emphasized his position didn't mean he was content with it, it meant he accepted it. Trying to socialize would only make it apparent that he was an outcast, though with the failed attempt at socializing, emotions of pity would arise. Getting rid of his self-proclaimed title by mingling and joining the crowd would be an impossible feat and would only serve to enhance any vile emotions he felt for being an outcast.
'Tears rolling down his ever-wet face forcing his eyes to keep the red hue for a while longer' would have been an accurate reaction for any child in this situation. Though, his face was unfazed. His heart was not held captive by feelings of despair and longing. The only thing he felt was lonesome and even that was not something he was willing to change.
He walked a couple of steps before turning around to face the townspeople. He continued this motion with no purpose or desire to stop for he was a wandering soul. There weren't many things a wandering soul could do but move aimlessly. Not only was he a wandering soul, but a wondering one as well; a horrible combination. He would contemplate events and actions but never think of them for too long since there was no reason to.
How unfortunate was Yukine to lose it and to lose it to fate was none the better. His existence was pointless without it; although his existence itself was debatable. What was one to expect from a soul that lost its body?
And, sadly, some things that are lost are never retrieved.
A/N: Thought I'd get deep for a while only to realize that I'm pretty much a shallow river (boring and safe).
