I'll be upfront: This is completely different than anything I've written for this fandom thus far. Meaning, it's not cute and bubbly and there's no banter (gasp!). Honestly, I'm a little afraid of how it will be received. . .

Thanks to Phoenix. :)

I should also mention that my Muse was inspired by the song "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (the Bonnie Tyler version). Also, this takes place after the finale. Ben survived. That's about it. Enjoy!

Love in the Dark

He comes to her when he knows she's alone, when he knows Auggie isn't there. He lurks in the shadows like some creature that can't be exposed to the light. He always comes to her at night, after she clicks off her bedside lamp.

His knock at her door always resounds loudly throughout her house and echoes in her ears as she floats toward the door, anticipation and excitement gripping her stomach between their fists. His appearance always takes her breath away. Those blue eyes are always intense, flooded with lust and desire. That mysterious aura she always found so appealing emanates off of him.

Ben Mercer is a ghost. At least, he is a ghost in Annie's life. He, and the memories she has of him haunt her; they follow her like shadows.

Annie has never stopped loving him. That's why she lets him come in from the darkness and into the equally dark house. It's why she lets him touch her without asking for permission and why—even though she's in love with someone else now—she lets her love for Ben consume her when he comes drifting in from the night.

Tonight will not be any different. Annie waits for the knock at the door, her heart already palpitating, her sex already slick and prepared for Ben to take what he wants. As always, Annie will willingly give up her body to his hands and mouth, memorizing the way he smells and how he feels against her, in her.

He doesn't keep her waiting long.

Annie forces herself to walk to the door and swings it open for him. Once she sees Ben outlined by the dim light from the streetlamps, Annie can't control herself. She drags him inside the house, locking her mouth onto his and pressing her naked body against him. Ben responds to her fervor with enthusiasm.

He's more aggressive tonight than usual, but it only drives Annie to be more animalistic and wild in return. They only have a few hours together, she knows, before Ben disappears for who knows how long this time. It could be months until he makes another visit to her house, before she hears his knock again. She intends to make the most of the moment.

Even as he sucks and bites the skin on her neck and breasts, she eggs him on, arching into his grasp. If, tomorrow, she has bruises on her hips from his calloused hands, she won't complain. He does it to mark her, to remind her in the daylight hours that he isn't some phantom of her imagination. He hurts her to claim her.

A/N: Well? I'm really curious (and nervous) to hear your thoughts. I hope you'll share them with me, whether they're positive or constructive. :) What worked, what didn't?

And no worries, I'm still an A-squared shipper. Look for an A-squared Thanksgiving one-shot in the near future. :)

ETA: Thanks resourceress7 for catching my slip-up with the eye color! :)
