"There's nothing between us," she stated firmly, feeling her heart wrench at the sight of Sarah's glassy eyes. "It was just an experiment, a hypothesis."
"I thought you loved me, Cos," Sarah murmured quietly, her voice choked up with pain and heartbreak. It was something that Cosima couldn't stand to recognize; the fact that she had to do this to Sarah or Kira's life would be in even greater danger.
"I never did," she replied turning and walking away so that she didn't have to face Sarah's reaction to the lie that she had to tell; one that shattered her own heart into a million pieces as she heard Sarah's world fall apart behind her with the sound of ugly, harsh sobs.
