Thanks to a certain person who helped me get off my lazy butt and start writing again. You know who you are.

"Here lies the Fountain of Memories. All those who have lost a loved one are welcome to throw in a coin in remembrance. Please be considerate of others." The plaque, shining silver against hard granite, was set into place at the base of the pooling water. The 98th Emperor of Britannia, Charles zi Britannia, watched on as the workers cleaned up, bowed deeply to him and the young lady beside him, and departed. The fountain would be open to the public tomorrow, but today was a day for the Emperor to mourn the loss of a woman he had loved deeply, more than any other wife he had taken. He cast his gaze downward, into the water which seemed to reveal a different universe in its reflection, mixing the world above with the mosaic of angels and spirits below the surface. Blinking away the tears that threatened to fall, he cast a single golden coin into the water, the ripples disturbing the balance of the two worlds above and below the water and blending them into one.

"A place where heaven and earth are one…I will construct it," the Emperor rumbled, observing as the ripples cleared and the water became still once more, his coin covering the face of one of the angels.

"For Lelouch and Nunnally?" The girl at his side asked innocently, her pink eyes staring into vast violet. "Or for me?" Her voice took on a different tone now, shifting into something more knowing.

"For all of us." Charles turned, cloak sweeping out behind him, and walked away to return to his duties.

Wow, didn't realize how short this was when I wrote it. Then again, longfic isn't exactly my forte, and this is just to kick things off. I hope I'll be able to come back to this and write for the other characters (and I promise that if I do, poor Suzaku will be here several times.)
