A/N: So, I don't know if anyone else noticed this but I thought Jack was conspicuously missing from Mac's recovery. I know a lot of us have ideas that they may be closer than they are on the show, so here's my explanation of where Jack was. This is a short short one.
Mac's Six
Birds trilled and sang in the early morning; their voices a welcome break from the silence that had descended on the man in the shadows of the trees. From his vantage point, he could see almost the entire surrounding area of the house set back on the road. Adjusting his sunglasses, the man chanced a glance at his watch. He's late today.
The sound of the door opening brought his attention to bear. Shuffling back into the cover of the trees, he watched as the younger man exited the house and paused on the lawn. As the younger man went through his normal routine of stretching, the one in the trees began his own rendition, preparing for the next part. A few minutes later the younger man started at a light jog. Waiting a few moments, the man left the cover of the trees, after making sure his hat and sunglasses were in place. He followed behind and to the left, his steps light, breathing even.
Cutting through the trees, he took a different path, one he knew would intercept the young man's path without being overly obvious. It took several minutes before his and the kid's path came together at the trailhead, but lucky enough for the tail there were several others already making their own journey.
The man didn't have a worry that he would be spotted, he was in disguise; he wasn't wearing black. The man kept pace with the younger man, his eyes shifting for any sign of a threat, external or one of the kid's own making. This day it seemed was a better one than the others. As they started up the incline that lead to the Griffith Observatory, the man (not in black) saw an increase in speed and adjusted his to patch.
When the kid took off like someone was after him, the man cursed. Wondering if he had been spotted or he had missed something. Checking for any threats, he realized that none were forthcoming. Darn you, Mac. Making me sweat this early in the morning is just not fair!
Jack Dalton, Delta Soldier, had to skid to a stop when Mac pulled up short, breathing heavily as he rain his hands through his hair. That just be where Nikki enters. Rough man. Once Mac seemed to get himself back under control, as he reached the top, Jack made sure to split to the right just as Mac turned around and started back down the trail. Keep it together bud. Jack paced in place for a few moments while he allowed Mac to gain a slightly lead. A quick touch confirmed that he trusty sidearm was still in place should something come up but to his relief it was an uneventful run.
Jack watched the kid as he went down the more secluded lane, while he followed the tree line. Some time before the start and end of the run Mac's roommate had stuck a missile prop outside, which Mac bent down to retrieve on his way in. Shaking his head in amusement, Jack bent over to catch his breath. I am not as young as I used to be. Allowing himself the moment of reprieve, he tapped his ear piece and report that MacGyver was back in residence and they should give him a few minutes before Patti made her appearance. Jack cooled down while waiting for Patti to show up. When she pulled up, he nodded discreetly and left the kid in her capable hands while he went to freshen up for the coming mission brief.
Don't worry kid I got your six.
A/N: Well, that's my quick musings on the subject.
