Title: Pinky Promises

Setting: Post Season Seven

AN: I don't own Gilmore Girls.

This is a short little one shot that comes out of the middle of Chapter Nine of Winning Back the Gilmore Girls. You don't really need to read that first to understand this.

This is from Rory and Lorelai's prospective as opposed to Christopher and Logan's, and it's only one tiny little scene.

Rory Gilmore watched as her father walked down the corridor exiting the hospital and leaving her alone with her mother again.

"So what are the consequences of breaking a pinky promise?" she asked, referring to the conversation her parents just had. Her dad had made her mom pinky swear about something, then reminded her of the consequences for breaking such a promise, causing her mother to gasp and exclaim 'Christopher! You wouldn't!'

"It's nothing," Lorelai told her sullenly, still obviously annoyed that Christopher had gotten one over on her.

"If it's nothing then why did you scold Dad?" Rory tried again.

Lorelai sighed, and resigned herself to answer. "Didn't you and Lane ever pinky swear about anything?"

"Nope. We were 'cross your heart hope to die' kids," Rory informed her.

"Well the pinky promise, or pinky swear, is the most solemn of promises, made only with the utmost care and respect," Lorelai started.

"Okay… so what's the consequence for breaking the promise?" Rory asked, beginning to get annoyed.

"Because it's such an important promise, the consequences are equally harsh and important."

"Spit it out Mom!" Rory exclaimed.

"If the promise is broken, the person who requested the pinky promise gets to tell one of the promise breakers secrets," Lorelai explained in hushed tones, as if it was a matter of national security.

"Okay. So what?"

"They get to tell any secret they want, to any person they want," she explained further. She watched as realization dawned in her daughter's eyes.

"Dad would never tell Grandma and Grandpa on you. You're adults for heaven's sake!" she exclaimed defensively.

"He probably wouldn't choose your Grandparents to tell now Kid…" Lorelai trailed off thinking about exactly how many secrets Christopher Hayden knew about her over the years. The consequences of breaking a pinky promise could be absolutely devastating. "But, you don't need to worry about it. In all of the years I've known your dad, I've never broken a pinky promise to him, and I'm not going to start now."
