It was a beautiful dream. She was lying in his arms. He was softly
rocking her from side to side. There bodies were intertwined; they were
one. He pulled up his face to kiss her, but it was not his face anymore.
It was someone else's. A cruel, harsh face. He forced his lips onto her.
She pulled away. There in the background was the one she loved. Chained
to a wall, a look of pain, anguish and bitter resentment, all locked upon
her. She called out, but it was no good.
With a jerk, Rinoa Heartilly awoke to the cruel, harsh light of day. She
reached across the bed towards Squall. But of course, he wasn't there. He
hadn't been for a long time. He was missing on duty, presumed dead. It
was impossible though. Squall couldn't be dead. She loved him too much.
But, did he love her? Before he left, he had never said goodbye, or said
that he loved her. He had just walked off to the car. She didn't even
know where he was. It was a secret mission. But it seemed to greatly
upset him. Rinoa could feel the familiar lump in her throat forming, the
stinging in her eyes signalling tears of true devastation and loss. But,
she had to get on with her life.
She needed a day out, so, she resolved to go to Balamb to get a train and
see where she ended up. She could visit her father in Deling, or go to see
Ellone in Winhill. It was a beautiful day. Really, she didn't care. At
that moment in time, her life felt over. She dressed slowly before heading
out and down towards the cafeteria. Maybe she would bump into someone to
talk to. Instead, she bumped into Zell. For once in his rather mad and
insane life, he looked very serious.
"Good morning Rinoa. Quistis needs to see you upstairs. I've been looking
for you everywhere." His solemn tone. His look of great anguish. A
request to see the new head of Balamb Garden, It was all over. Squall was
dead.
