It seemed like another joyous day for Papyrus the skeleton as he arose from his bed sheets. His eyes brimming with the promise of another new day and a new chance to reinvent himself. You see, this was Papyrus' first day going to Monster High School. This was exciting for Papyrus as he now had the chance to make a new impression on a bunch of people he had never met before.
There was only one problem.
Papyrus was not very popular for one specific reason. A character flaw so stunningly abhorrent as to repel any potential love and adoration away from his otherwise charming and fun personality. He was an orphan.
Papyrus was ashamed to even admit this to himself. How could he? After all, everyone knows that orphans such as Papyrus were destined for failure and obscurity, it is just a matter of fact. Papyrus was no exception to this rule.
Regardless, Papyrus dressed himself up in fancy and totally righteous clothing, one that would clearly mark him as a non-orphan. But Papyrus had that orphan stink all over him, people from miles away just knew he had no parents, and no amount of cool clothing could ever stunt that thought.
Papyrus made his way down the stairs, trying to set in his new personality. He saw Sans, his older brother sitting on the couch like his old lazy self. Papyrus shook his head and secretly congratulated himself for going to high school.
"Hey Sans, how do I look?" said Papyrus
Sans scanned the childish skeleton with a glazed look in the eye. Papyrus sweated nervously to hear his almighty brother's opinion.
"You look like an orphan." said Sans without much expression, this comment was not unexpected from anybody.
Papyrus didn't take this observation well however and began sobbing uncontrollably on the floor. Sans didn't care much as he knew his brother always acted out emotionally like this. Nevertheless he tried to comfort Papyrus just so he'd leave him alone.
"Look bro, you can never escape being an orphan. Even if it does suck, you just gotta accept that about yourself and live with it." Sans said. He knew the orphan life wasn't easy, but it was necessary for Papyrus to accept and hate himself for that very fact.
"I just guess I'll never be popular..." said Papyrus with tears slowly streaming down his face.
"Oh yeah, and don't forget that your first day as a trainee is tonight too. Undyne won't be happy if you miss it." said Sans.
With that reminder, Papyrus perked right back up. Papyrus was really excited to make some real use of himself as a trainee of the royal guard, even if this sense of purpose was false and misguided. Sans only signed him up for such a task as it was the lowest and most brainless task for such an orphan like Papyrus. Deep down, Sans really did feel bad, but he didn't.
Papyrus jaunted out his door and skipped merrily to school. But his happy yet brief journey was rudely halted when he arrived at the school itself. It was then that the crushing fact that he was an orphan yet again reared it's ugly head once again. All of the students from Monster High stared at him deeply with contempt. Papyrus tried his best to play it cool.
"Hey kids, how's it hanging in the house. Really excited for school, right?" Papyrus said with a vigour that only a faker like him could provide.
"Say, are you an orphan?" asked one of the kids in the crowd that had formed in front of him. It didn't take a genius to recognize that Papyrus was an orphan. After all, Papyrus himself had figured this fact out, and he was no genius at all.
Papyrus sweated nervously. He was so nervous that his cover would be blown that he even contemplated lying (What a monster!). Nevertheless this plan was cut short as Brad came to clear the truth.
"Yes, of course he has no parents. I even went to monster middle school with him and his nickname was no-parents." Brad said in a mocking tone, although it was not unjustified.
Papyrus had hated the way Brad made fun of him, ever since they went to monster middle school together. Yet Papyrus still respected Brad's honesty in admitting Papyrus' lack of parents, a hard truth that Papyrus struggled with everyday.
Papyrus was devastated that his cover had been blown so early, and by Brad of all people, although it was unlikely that his cover would've lasted much longer without Brad's intervention. After all, it is quite obvious that Papyrus is an orphan, don't you think?
The rest of the day was filled with torture such as this. In math, the teacher used this example to explain addition:
"1+1 equals 2. Think of your mom and dad making a couple of 2... it makes a lot of sense."
Everyone was able to understand that clear example... but Papyrus. Again it happened in history when explaining basics that everyone can understand except Papyrus:
"As you can see, this is the royal family, it makes a lot of sense if you have parents... unlike Papyrus." the history teacher said callously.
Worst of all was in gym class, when the teacher had divided the teams in two. Those with parents and those without. Let's just say Papyrus got hit by many dodge balls that day.
And so Papyrus' day ended in failure, although I don't know what he was expecting. He ran out slowly from the school to escape even more well-deserved mockery. However his plan was dashed when he heard a familiar voice call out to him.
"Where do you think you're going, no-parents?" said Brad from behind.
"Err, I actually need to be somewhere Brad." said Papyrus, surprisingly telling the truth.
"Before you go, I have a joke I want you to hear first." said Brad.
Papyrus really didn't want to hear it, but he was forced to, and rightfully so, as the joke is really funny.
"Yo momma's so stupid, she forgot she couldn't die." snickered Brad. Papyrus laughed at the joke, even though he didn't really find it that funny.
After a great joke like that, Papyrus fled the scene. He didn't want to intensify the situation that had transpired. After all, he needed to be somewhere.
Papyrus now walked to see Undyne, hoping that his orphanness wouldn't mess things up. But know Papyrus, they probably will...
