A/N: Here's another Pirates one-shot, from Norrington's PoV...please note I wrote this in about ten minutes, out of sheer boredom for the most part. It's a little bizarre, but what the heck. Once again, the he/he thing may get a bit confusing... no, it is not slash, just to clarify...once you've read it, if you don't read it, read it again...not slash...

Disclaimer: I still don't own the movie...

"So this is where your heart- truly lies?"

"It is."

Years later, he still could not force the images of her from his mind, and it was pathetic. He needed to move on, put the past in the past, but him- the other, wouldn't let him.

"Still crying over your tragic loss, eh?" he asked the crying man before him with a clear tone- and intention- of mockery. The man on the dusty stable floor slid his hands down from his eyes, and as they reached his side, turned to fists as he stood up to face him. The other man just laughed.

"You could have had her, you know...she loved me..." he flexed his hand, daring his match to come take him. The other man just stared, long, hard, and defenseless, for moments as he watched him laugh in his face. He, too, flexed his bruised and bloody hands- he had been scarred before by this man, the one who had prevented him from ever seeing her again- robber of his pride...

The other man was on him before he could finish another stream of thought- swinging, jabbing- another blow to his face, he cried out just as the man grabbed his sword from his belt and leaned over him, the shadow of what-could-have-been -

"Why! Why- why are you doing this to me?" Staring into the eyes of his William Turner as he faded away before him, he panted-

"You- are doing this- to yourself." His imaginary foe, ebbed away by his pain, disappeared as the one- the only, man stood up and drove the sword through his heart. Yes, this was where it truly lay.
