Fall For You

Tonight will be the night

That I will fall for you,

Over again,

Don't let me change my mind,

'Cause I won't live to see another day,

I swear it's true;

Because I girl like you's impossible to find,

You're impossible to find.

-Fall for You, Secondhand Serenade-

Pacing, quick-footed and heart-racing, trying to breathe normally. It was hard to think. Why couldn't he just stay mad, instead of melting into puppy-dog eyes and gentle kisses? Even if that argued about something huge and important, the same thing would always happen; the apology would always be automatically accepted without a second thought.

Arthur knew this as he paced, alone in his study. Alfred has stormed out just minutes ago after another petty argument about something stupid. What had it been again? In fact, Arthur couldn't even remember how it had all kicked off in the first place. He sighed deeply and collapsed into his chair.

But he knew why he always forgave the American. It all came down to a stupid little emotion commonly known as love. That feeling that lead to complete devotion and surrender of any common sense. Stupid love. Always getting in the way of things. How much easier life would be without it! If only one could just remove love. If you could just cut it out of your brain so you wouldn't have to worry about those ridiculous situations love often dropped you in ever again!

It was about seven o'clock when Arthur received a phone call from Alfred asking if it would be okay to come back to the older nation's house. Naturally, after a stream of insults Arthur said no and hung up. He told himself that he didn't care if that stupid yank slept in the gutter. Later he found himself wondering if he'd found a comfortable hotel room.

That night, while he lay awake in his bed staring up at the ceiling waiting to fall asleep, the phone rang. It was Alfred telling him how he couldn't sleep, and that he wanted to talk things through and forgive each other, because he loved the Brit so very very much and he never wanted to let him go. The apologies went on and on, and the more Alfred talked the more Arthur remembered the reasons for falling in love with him in the first place. And, boy, was there a lot of them. He'd just have to accept that no matter what Alfred did, Arthur would just fall for him just as hard, all over again.
