A/N: The quote at the beginning is Loki talking to Thor before he lets go at the bridge. (See end of Thor) Obviously, that didn't really happen, so this is a total Thorki angst, feels, 'what-if?', and partial character study. It is no way accurate to the "canon" storyline (of non-fangirls).
Also, I wrote this for one of my best friends but I hope you all enjoy it anyway.~

{ "People like me, Brother, do not deserve a happy ending."}
What a world it is
when the fire can't melt the ice.
What a world it is
when the sun can't thaw the snow.
And the lost and alone remain broken inside
and so cold, so very cold.
A frozen heart will
build its walls,
an icy man will
build his mask
In a fortress apart from the world.
In an effort to shield from
the heat of the soul
and the pain of love.
Maybe it was a childish dream
to have hoped he could survive.
Because the flame will start to freeze
and the chill will start to seep
and it's better to have never loved
than to have loved and lost the warmth.
So, he's slipping down
farther and farther away.
He's letting go
of all he has come to know.
And he's so scared and alone but he won't let it show
because he's protecting the flame
from the ice's frozen glow.
Now his saving grace is gone
and there's only one thing left to do.
No matter how much it may hurt,
no matter how much it may sting.
Because it is better to have never loved
than to have loved and lost the warmth.
