Demonic eyes watched her.
They watched as she poked at the fire, turning over the burning wood to send bright embers flying high. They watched as she cried…. Her tears sparkled in the light of the flames.
Demonic ears heard her sob.
They listened to her quick breaths as she relieved her sadness. They could hear her agony flow from the depths of her soul.
Demonic senses felt her stand.
They caught the vibrations in the ground as she turned his way. They knew what was to come.
A demonic hand reacted to her embrace.
It raised of it own accord, coming to rest softly on the back of the girl-turned-woman. It twitched in response to the muscles moving through her as she cried.
The demon raised his head.
The woman gripped his armor.
He listened when she finally spoke the words he knew were to come.
"You do not love me as I do you, my Lord."
It was a statement, not a question as he had expected. A statement that both relieved and infuriated him.
She dared to assume his intentions for her? She, a mortal, dared to suggest she knew his thoughts, his emotions?
Yes…this mortal woman indeed dared.
He looked down at his beautiful companion.
"No, Rin, I do not."
And he walked away.
Demonic eyes glanced at her one last time, before they focused on the forest ahead. Demonic ears heard her knees hit the dirt beneath her, the tears that come forth even harder. The demonic hand twitched again, tingling with the memory of touching her.
Demonic eyes closed.
She would not know the truth, even if it killed her from within.
