Life went by, and Naminé could do nothing about it. It looped around and repeated in an infinite merry-go-round. The occupants were fated to remain on board until the bitter end, dancing to the mechanisms of the universe, like painted carousel horses. Was it really life, though, that she was living? Could she even call it that?

No. She led a half-existence, existing…yet not. No heart beat within this husk of flesh, no pure emotion sprang from her remnant of a soul. Only traces of whatever she had been remained. She could remember, though…through memories from long ago, in another existence, what it was like to dance. To sing…to smile…to be free of fear and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.

To live without living…to move without dancing… Naminé realized, then, that she was indeed a part of the carousel of life: a lone, pale painted horse, machinery stripped away, frozen still while the rest of the world danced around her.

Obligatory disclaimer: Unless the world is playing a cruel joke on me, I own neither anything related to Kingdom Hearts, nor to the singer YUI.

Hi there. Welcome to LIFE, a thirteen-part drabble series focusing on Naminé. This is a bit of an unusual project for me…

I've been looking for something new to use in my writing, and came up with a little game of sorts. I decided that I would take an album I liked, and write one drabble for each song, based on the song's title. I chose to use YUI's album "LIFE," and thus will write thirteen drabbles focusing on the events of Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 2, through Naminé's eyes. Some spoilers may be found within, so read with caution.

If you're interested, keep an eye out for more in the future!
