Black Tea

He'd always preferred his tea black. Steaming, he would drink it while eating his bagel, his eyebrows raised at whatever topic he was currently reading in the newspaper.

I drank my tea black too. I'd always considered getting green mint tea, or perhaps an herbal orange – but the look on his face always stopped me. He was so – oh, charming, and haughty, and yet altogether dignified and wonderful while ordering his black tea, and I would always want to be just like him. And so when the smiling waitress would turn her beam to me, I would sit stiffly, mimicking my face so it could be just like his – and order my tea black.

I once recalled asking him to order raspberry tea. My buns were decorated neatly with florid bows, and my hands were neatly placed on my thighs – and he gave me a glance that wilted me like a flower bereft of its sun. I remember the look he gave me – his beautiful, fiery, molten, amber eyes just froze, and he gave me the iciest glare I believe he could muster at the time. I never asked him again.

And so when I walked by the tea shop on my way home yesterday, and found them drinking raspberry tea together, their faces bashful and certain – I wondered if perhaps, I would always drink my tea black.

summershine: So, what d'you think? Meilin is my favorite character, and I've always felt so horrible for her that she can't be with the love of her life – Syaoran – and so I wrote this baby so I could sort of jot down my feelings. Anyway, thanks a bunch for reading! I have blueprints for a Tomoyo story next, but it's in the way early stages, so I'll try and update on its progress! Toodles!
