Prologue
The Palais Garnier, home of the Paris Opera for over a century, was designed by Charles Garnier in 1860 and finally opened its doors to the public on the 5th of January 1875. However, over seven stories below the ground level lies a dark and forbidden world of cavernous chambers, forgotten cellars, and a labyrinth of menacing corridors and hidden passageways. In the midst of which, is a mysterious underground lake.
Above ground, the Opera House was to achieve fame for its numerous opening night scandals as much for its spectacular productions, but far below the ground, it was to achieve fame as an Opera House for a very different reason. Throughout the decades, into the 20th and 21st centuries, rumours spoke of a mad and disfigured composer who haunts the darkest regions of this awesome building to this very day, with its opulent heaven of marble and guilt glittering above, while below lies a tormented hell of darkness.
Down underneath lie the chambers of death, where shadows linger and time stands still. Nothing moves, save rats and spiders who have made these damp cold stones their home. Nothing moves, and yet the ghosts of madness stalk this lonely realm, to chill the blood and stir one's darkest fears with strange ambience, to glimpse the silent shadow of he who rules this grim terrain. His ghastly face, forever hidden from the night, for he is master here.
There are shadows here, phantoms and shadows. The atmosphere is heavy, it chills the blood, and this way it comes. Is it a shadow, or could it be the Phantom himself...?
Deep in the torture chambers, beneath the Paris Opera House, lies the lair of the Phantom, he who haunts these very chambers. A ghastly face that speaks a weird and strange poetry. But in silence, he comes, a phantom, a Phantom of the Opera...
To be continued...
