The fifth time Jovie kisses Buddy, she knows he is the one for her.
The first time they kiss, it is under the sparkling lights of New York city, corruption flowing in the air, and the cries of hungry people warming the night air; but when the two kiss, something inside of her glows.
The second time they kiss, she is on Buddy's doorstep, having met his brother and gotten his mother's approval; all she can see are his eyes, bright blue and crinkly, a little less eager and excited then they were when she first met him, but he is still Buddy.
The third time they kiss, he is meeting her at the mall, and she is feeling a little adventurous. She can feel Tom's eyes on her, and so she leans forward and pecks Buddy on the lips - he, ofcourse is shocked and reprimands her; but she can tell he liked it.
The fourth time they kiss, Buddy grabs her roughly by the shoulders and seals his lips to hers because he has just heard that his adopted father has died, and he is learning to seek comfort the human way. She is all too willing to accomodate him, but deep inside of her, something dies at seeing the change in him.
The fifth time they kiss, it is New Years' Eve, and it feels like her life has come full circle. They are at the skating rink, and no one else is around; but it is perfect. They eat salted peanuts, and sing Buddy's favorite Christmas carols, and suddenly, Jovie realizes everything is the same as it ever was - only better.
