A Star Trek: Enterprise story

AU after "Two Days and Two Nights"

A/N: I'd considered posting this on my "Odd Ideas", but it doesn't include any Harry Potter characters, and is just a quick oneshot

"Captain, could you come down to Sick Bay when you have a minute?" came the voice from the Communications Console on the bridge.

Captain Archer hit a control on his command chair, and replied, "Of course, Doctor." He turned to Subcommander T'Pol.

"You have the bridge," he said as he headed to the Turbolift. Within minutes, he was at Sick Bay.

"What do you need, Doctor?"

"Remember that alien we picked up on Risa?" asked Doctor Phlox. "The one who was fast-tracked into Starfleet?"

"Yes," said Captain Archer hesitantly. "His name is Ravis. Is there something wrong with him?"

"Not with him," said Phlox. "With her."

He pointed at Hoshi Sato, the beautiful Communications Officer, who was stepping out of a side room. The Captain hit his head with his palm, being able to put two and two together.

"Hoshi?" asked the Captain. "This is all a joke, right? You seriously didn't get pregnant by a member of an alien species, did you?"

"Yes, Captain, I did," said Hoshi with her head down. "I'm sorry, Captain, I should have known better."

"Don't be sorry, Hoshi," said the captain. "I expected Trip to be impregnating alien females, not you getting impregnated."

The captain turned to Phlox. "Is she going to be all right?"

"As far as I can tell, their DNA is perfectly compatible," said Phlox. "Mind, I did find some odd base pairs in Ravis, but the child seems to be normal, for a human. The child may have some characteristics of the father, as well."

"That is very good," said Archer. "How long can Hoshi work on the bridge?"

"Most of the gestational period, Captain," said Phlox. "Given 22nd century medical technology, and the fact that she sits on the bridge, I'd say that pretty much up until the child is born."

"And will that be nine months like a human?" asked the captain. Hoshi nodded that she wanted that answer, too.

"As far as I can tell, yes," said Phlox. "The information that Ravis has given me suggests that his species has an 8-10 month gestational period."

Archer face-palmed again. "Hoshi, do you realise what type of position this puts me in? I vouched that Ravis would help Starfleet. I got you assigned to Enterprise, as you are the best linguist in the galaxy. Because of your skills, you were directly commissioned into Starfleet. Although I will try to convince him otherwise, Admiral Forrest may have your Commission for this."

"I'm sorry, Captain," repeated Hoshi.

"Now, as your friend, I must say 'congratulations'," said the Captain. "As far as I know, you're the first Starfleet officer to get pregnant off-world."
