After the war, Lavender knew that she would never be beautiful again. Vain though she was, she was not completely daft. She knew there were more important things than beauty, but it still threw her into a slight depression every now and then. That was the time when she would drown her sorrows in Firewhiskey - lots and lots of Firewhiskey - until she forgot about the war and the scars from it. Her physical scars were more obvious to others, but the emotional scars were far worse.
She was in a pub drowning her depression one evening, about four or five years after the war. She was on her sixth Firewhiskey when an old school friend of hers walked in.
"Seamus F-Finnigan!" She slurred, a huge grin on her scarred face.
"Hello, Lavender," he smiled.
"What are you doing h-hic!-here?"
"Come in for a drink," he replied, glancing down at her nearly-empty glass. "Looks like you've already had a few, though."
Her smile vanished, and tears started flowing. Seamus stared at her in surprise for a few seconds before guiding her to a sofa by the window. They stayed there for a long time, Lavender weeping as Seamus held her.
"So many people d-died an-and now I have sc-scars all over me and..."
"Shh, shh," he whispered, gently stroking her her hair. "I know, I know. But you're still beautiful."
Lavender looked at him with wide eyes. "What?" She whispered.
"You're beautiful," he repeated, wiping away her tears with his thumb.
She stared at him in disbelief. It had been five years - perhaps more - since anyone had told her that.
"You... You mean it?" She whispered.
He nodded, going back to stroking her hair softly. She closed her eyes blissfully.
Suddenly, she felt a pair of soft lips kiss her tenderly. She opened her eyes to see Seamus pulling away. She grabbed him by the shirt and crashed her lips into his. She threw her arms around his neck and felt his hands on her waist as she kissed him passionately.
Finally, they pulled apart, breathless.
Seamus stared at her for a little while before saying, "So that's why it's called Firewhiskey."
