The alarm clock read 2:27 A.M. Shane knew that Final Jam was only one day away, but he couldn't keep his mind off of what he witnessed earlier the day before.
Nate brought Mitchie into a kiss, but Mitchie pulled away. "Nate, what are you doing? You know that I am with Shane. Why are you acting like this?"
"Mitchie, don't act like you didn't like it. I know you have feelings for me. I've caught you looking at me in the Mess Hall." Nate forced himself onto Mitchie once more, but she smacked him across his face.
"Nate, what will it take to get you to understand? I DO NOT LIKE YOU! I LOVE SHANE! Why is that so hard to comprehend?" Mitchie tried to run away but Nate ran after he. He slammed into her with such force, that the two of them landed on the wooden floor of the cabin, on top of one another. Nate held back Mitchie's arms with his own, and tried to kiss her again.
"Mmm…no…Nate…stop it…HELP!" Mitchie thought that if she screamed for help, someone might hear her and come to rescue her from the situation she was currently in.
"NATE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Shane blasted through the door and yelled. "NATE, GET OFF OF MITCHIE!"
Nate picked himself up off the floor and began walking toward Shane. "Or what? What is the big, bad, Shane Gray going to do to his bandmate? You don't have the guts to do anything, so quit acting like you are so tough."
"Nate, what happened to you, man? Why are you being like this?" Shane was puzzled as to why Nate was acting so out of character.
"Oh please. Don't act like you have no idea. I told you that I liked Mitchie from the beginning, but you went and stole her away from me. Now, I'm just returning the favor. How does it feel? Not such a good feeling, is it?" Nate walked closer to Shane and got up into his face and then…BAM!!
Nate punched Shane and Shane ended up on the floor, unconscious.
Shane awoke about an hour later and saw Mitchie curled up on the floor, crying with her head pulled down into her knees. He saw blood on her hands and around her, but Nate was nowhere to be found at the time.
Shane moved closer to Mitchie but she just pulled away. "Mitchie, what happened? Please…talk to me."
Mitchie continued to cry, but she couldn't say anything. She arose off of the floor and ran out the door with tears streaming down her face.
Shane still didn't know what happened to Mitchie, and he was worried about her. He wanted to do everything he could to protect her, and he let her down.
Shane heard a knock at the door and opened it to see Mitchie standing there, still in tears. "Mitchie, are you okay? Come in."
Mitchie and Shane sat down on his bed next to each other, and Mitchie began to speak, "Shane, I, I'm sorry I ran out on you earlier. I just didn't know what to do. I have never seen Nate act that way."
"It's okay. Just…do you know what happened? I mean…why was there blood on the floor?" As Shane asked that last question, Mitchie began to sob uncontrollably. It was then that Shane realized what had happened. "Oh…my…I'm going to kill Nate!" Shane was furious with anger in the fact that someone he had once considered a bandmate, a friend, would disrespect a young woman, no less, Shane's girlfriend, so terribly.
"Shane, I don't know what to do. This has never happened to me before, I'm not fit to be a mother. What if something happens to me?" Mitchie continued to cry into Shane's shirt as he rubbed her back, soothingly.
"Mitchie, I don't know what I can tell you, but I do know that, whatever happens, I will be here for you. And if I ever find Nate, I will kill him. But no matter what happens, we have each other, and that is all that matters." Shane kissed Mitchie's forehead as they laid down and fell asleep in each other's arm, awaiting whatever would come the following day.
