Kagome's sad smile frightened herself. {It's strange_ the closer we get, the sadder I feel_}

Inuyasha had surprised her that morning with a bouquet of flowers, all in radiant colors. He had smiled at her in that bewitching way of his. "Brought you something," he had told her with a grin. Kagome had smiled halfway, taking the flowers and putting them away as soon as Inuyasha had left.

They had become so close after defeating Naraku. Inexplicable as it may seem, this wasn't what she wanted. The love she had wanted to express to him for so long was less meaningful when it was two-sided. There were no words to say, they had all been used time and time again until they were meaningless.

Inuyasha came up behind Kagome in her dazed state and put his arms affectionately around her neck. "Kagome_?" he whispered in her ear. Kagome turned her head halfway and looked up at him. His long white hair brushed lightly against her face, a feeling that had once made her heart leap. But now_ her heart was still, unmoved.

"I'm fine," she lied, slipping out of Inuyasha's grasp. Inuyasha looked at her retreating form for a moment, pain flickering in his eyes. He in turn moved away into the forest.

Kagome took the route of a dirt path, gazing around at the scenery. A village nearby attracted her attention. She stood behind one of the huts, looking at two people standing in the center of the village.

A boy and a girl, both her age, giggled as they walked towards her, unaware of her presence. The boy grasped the girl's hand and kissed her neck, bringing another onslaught of giggles. Kagome's heart wrenched and she looked away. She began to run, run away from the village, run away from Inuyasha, run away from herself_

The sun began to set and Kagome sat to rest next to a clear, small pond. Kagome looked down into the water, looking for answers. All she saw in return was a face full of sadness, a face that seemed strange to love, her own face_

{I feel as though I don't know who I am anymore. I'm losing my identity. I'm even becoming a stranger to Inuyasha. He doesn't know what I'm thinking about. I can't tell him.} Kagome was suddenly filled with a strange sadness. The covering was that bleak, empty feeling that sadness contained, but a different feeling lay underneath. The warmth of love contained inside that sorrow_ It was all that kept her going by now_

Inuyasha had seen her like this. When she was full of sorrow, absentmindedly sitting, staring blankly. He had realized something was wrong and had tried to comfort her. "I love you" were his exact words. Kagome had looked up at him, a dreamy smile on her face. "I love you too_" she had replied, something causing her heart to crack. Small splits, caused by even the tiniest events, were causing her heart to slowly break.

I don't know why I wrote this_ just something sad I thought up. There won't be any continuation on this.
