So I doubt I'm the only one annoyed with how... for the lack of a better word, fanfiction-y ... S7 turned out to be so I thought to start a fic of my own to make myself feel better and hopefully some other people too...

Making Everything Alright Again

The Awakening

There wasn't much that could surprise Elena Gilbert anymore.

So when she woke up from what was supposed to be her slumber until her best friend Bonnie's death with hair slowly becoming platinum blonde and her eyes turning sky blue, she didn't think much of it. After all, stranger things have happened. As she looked around what she slowly realized was her room, she slowly got back onto her shaky feet and headed towards her dresser, trying not to fall over and embrass herself to the empty space. Sighing, Elena stumbled around her clothes, slowly stopping when she came across some she used to wear back in the day when she first met Stefan Salvatore, which now seemed like so long ago. Deciding to go with the pink blouse, leather jacket, simple jeans and sneakers and a pink necklace, the now blonde Gilbert girl wondered what to do next.

After all, she didn't know what year it was. For all she could guess, Bonnie might already be dead (which is why she herself woke up and went under this strange change in appearence) or merely a couple of weeks passed. Frowning at the thought of one of her best friends having already passed away while she had slept like some damsel in distress, Elena didn't notice the door to the room slowly opening until she heard a frightened gasp. Blinking, she turned to face what could only be Caroline Forbes, her other best friend and a vampire so why did she have what looked like a baby bump?

"Caroline." she walked up to her still with unsteady feet, her blue eyes questioning. "Are you human now?"

"W-what? No... but w-who are you!?"

"It's me, Elena." the other blonde replied and, before Caroline could cry out that she lying, continued. "I don't know why I woke up or why I look so different now, but if you are not human again, how come you are pregnant? Vampires like us cannot become pregnant, I'm sure Damon told you that."

"Well t-this is..." she was still clearly in shock but Elena shook her head.

"Let me guess, some witch's spell or something? I doubt Bonnie would do that without a good reason, though, so whose baby is it and why did you defy all that is known about vampires for it?"

"I..."

"Actually, don't say anything." the platinum blonde told her calmly. "Just take me Damon and Stefan. I'm sure that they must have an explanation ready!"

Caroline decided not to point out how much the other's smile scared her now. Elena was back but at what cost?
