The Companion
McRaider
Summary: The Doctor's thoughts as he accepts Martha as a companion.
Author's Note: I like Martha, but obviously I'm still in love with Rose and I will never ship anyone but Rose/Doctor. It's a really short shot that I just felt needed to be written. This is my 99th story so I'm planning something really big for 100...thinking it'll be a Doctor Who story...
She wanted more, they always wanted more. Rose had wanted more; she'd made it quite clear their trips together were never a one time deal. He looked at Martha, knowing exactly what she meant as she explained she didn't want to just be a passenger anymore. He paused, Rose popped into his head, she seemed to do that a lot these days.
"It wasn't your fault Doctor, I wouldn't have missed it for the world," she'd stood tall when facing the Dalek. She'd never blamed him, never hated him for his mistakes.
"Okay," was all he said softly looking at her.
She turned and walked away for a moment, pausing she glanced back at him, "What is it?"
"I said okay," he looked at her, "Okay," he tossed his head towards the Tardis, giving her a warm smile.
"THANK YOU!" she cried as she jumped into his arms and hugged him.
"Well you were never really a passenger," he chuckled.
He smiled as he stepped on board of his glorious ship, as Martha stroked the consol, for a moment he saw her again. The beautiful blonde hair, the doe brown eyes that would light up at the sight of a new species. "Not a bad life," he murmured quietly looking around, "But far better with two."
"What was that?" Martha asked from where she sat.
"Nothin, just—thinking, so where to Martha!? We could go anywhere!"
"I'm sorry bout my mum…"
He grinned like his lunatic self for a moment, "Not the first mother to slap me—Oy your mother an' Jackie would've gotten along smashingly!"
"Jackie?"
"Rose's mum, she didn't like Rose travelin' with me either…though to be fair she got a bit more of a shock then your mum." He shrugged, remembering the look on Jackie's face of absolutely fury, but the compassion she'd held when helping find ways to get Rose back to him. "Right then, where to?"
