Kate POV
17 years had past since he died, I could still remember that fateful day as clear as if it happened only yesterday, how they'd come for him, taken him out of my grasp and killed him on the spot. Each day after that had been full of pain and longing for him, because without him, I was nothing. But I had to keep struggling on.
I walked into the school cafeteria, even though I had no need to eat, and sat in my usual place in the far corner, where I could see everything that was happening in the room. Nothing unusual was happening, people coming and going, getting food, sitting with friends, chatting about how great their lives are. I sighed as my only friend came and sat with me. Charlotte, short blonde Charlotte. She lost her mate the same day as I, so knew exactly how I was feeling.
'Still nothing?' She asked me
'Nothing… I bet they're never coming back' I replied
'They will, eventually' she sounded hopeful
We had this idea, well she had this idea, that one day they would return to us, but we just had to keep looking for them. She insisted that it was true because there were reports of it happening before. I just went along with it for something to do, something to keep me busy, something to keep me from just sitting at home and doing nothing for days on end.
We'd returned to school for this reason, for something to do and to look for them. Even though I'm now failing all my classes from not paying any attention and drifting off into my mind to happier times. Charlotte, however, was doing very well in class, but I wasn't too bothered about grades, I just want to find him.
'C'mon' She said to me, 'Stop moping around and let's go to the library'
'Okay...' I had to agree, there was obviously nothing interesting in here to do
We stood and started making our way towards the door when suddenly a tall boy with dyed black hair which covered his eyes shoved his way past us. Ugh, just enough one of those emos… I thought to myself and looked at Charlotte. She was staring at the boy as he walked away, then it hit me, his hair had parted slightly when he went past showing a flash of bright green eyes.
She'd found Peter.
