Doomsday had descended upon the earth; the sky was filled with fire; the light of the comet which dimmed the sun; it was the end of the world.

And only one person could stop it.

Aang raced toward the Fire Palace Throne Room; there was no time for this!

The comet glowed above; its heat felt by every being across the globe. I have to destroy that comet! Thought Aang… but there was no time!

He entered the Throne Room. Sillhouette visible behind a wall of flame, the Fire Lord awaited him.

---

It was a long, hard, battle, but by then end Ozai had been struck down.

Exhausted, chest heaving, Aang had reached his limit. But still, he had won. Suddenly, running footsteps were heard coming down the hall. It was Azula.

For some reason, Aang was smiling. Aang believed that she would not betray him; she had sworn loyalty to his cause, and he trusted her. He couldn't see it, but Ozai was smiling, too.

"Avatar! Go! You need to destroy the comet! I'll look after my father…" she said.

Azula ran to her father, and whisper in his ear, "Just as we planned, eh, father? Time to double-cross those who were foolish enough to trust me…"

She got up and aimed at the flying Avatar, and made the motions. The familiar electric charge danced at her fingertips; but at the last second, she turned, and her father's face fell.

It was not the Avatar that was struck down, but her father. He lay on the floor, but now, he would never get up again. A black smoldering hole burnt through his chest.

"Oh, father, did I say double-cross? My mistake, I meant triple-cross."

A look of horror spread across his features.

"Why… my daughter… why have you… betrayed… me…" gasped the dying man.

Azula turned to him, wondering how he could have missed such an obvious conclusion.

"Now, really… It's just common sense, father! It is absurd to think that an island can perpetually govern a continent, and it is for that reason alone I have betrayed you. Were I to betray the Avatar, instead, we would have won the war... but to what ends? Eventually, the people of the Earth Kingdom would rebel. They would not accept our leadership, nor would they adhere to our government. To think that the rest of the world will follow you willingly is nothing but foolishness. They would rise against us, and you cannot govern an uprising. The Earth Kingdom is larger. It has more power. More people. It has so much more more potential than the Fire Nation. Zuzu can have the homeland, Father, but I want the Earth Kingdom for myself. Face it, Father; the Fire Nation is obsolete."

She smiled coldly as she left her father lying dead on the floor.

Well? Interesting concept, no? That's kind of how the whole thing went down in my head… Though unlikely, now that Azula ALREADY owns the EK...

I just now found this in the back files of my PC. I think I wrote it some time last year...
