"Do you want to build a snowman?"
There was a chill that went through her bones as she heard those words echoing through her door. Elsa covered her ears to try and thrown them out as she rolled over in her bed watching as her hands turned the corners of her bed into icicles as the young girl pushed herself off from the mattress.
In her night stand was a picture of her and Anna during the happier more content times, and a picture of the royal family smiling and appearing happy but Elsa could not even bring herself to glance at them any more.
Instead she starred at her hands, watching as flurries of snow came from her fingertips and she felt herself clasping her hands trying to keep her powers contained, trying to breath trying to relax.
"It doesn't have to be a snowman."
"Go away Anna." She said short and to the point. The phrase always worked it always sent the younger girl away giving her a chance to just relax without the voice ringing in her ears.
Not that she could ever relax.
The knocks came every day at about the same hour, her sister begging her to play and asking her why she just hid herself away in her room not wishing to see anyone or at times not even wanting to respond. At one point she thought that would be what kept her away. If she just not responded to Anna maybe she would just forget about her. Maybe if she just spent enough time hiding away in her room everyone will just forget she existed.
"I've started talking to the pictures on the wall…"
The words echoed through the hall and it always felt like a dagger against Elsa's heart but she knew that this was for the best. She knew that just ignoring her would be the only way that Anna would finally understand that she was a hopeless cause. That everyone would be better off without her. After all the pictures of the happy family on the walls would have been better off if she had never been born with the happy smiling baby Anna and the beaming parents not with the shy young girl who looked away.
That was the reason why she had locked herself up in the castle, why she just waited and hoped that she herself would be turned into ice just to match the amount of damage she had done to everyone around her. The darkness settled into her mind as she lost track of time, track of the days and nights until she heard the knocks on the door.
"I know you're in there…"
The words echoed in her mind, making Elsa feeling as if it was hard to breath as she felt the ice surround her. She panted, as she could not even remember how to breathe properly. Everyone could have been so much better off without her. Anna would have been a fine princess… her parents would have been wonderful leaders….
If it were not for her.
If it were not for the fact that she missed saving Anna. The ice hitting her sister in the heart and her parents going crazy with loosing their younger daughter at the hands of their own was too much to bear. The queen and king died of a broken heart or at least that was the story that was spread but Elsa knew that she had been the one responsible for the circumstances that caused both of them to take their own life after her powers kept getting stronger. They could not bear the thought of missing their youngest child, or the thought that Elsa kept saying how Anna had to be alive since she kept coming to ask her to build a snowman.
The ice surrounded her as she heard the begging sounds of her sister asking her to come out of her room and join her.
Well… she would have to do that.
Author Note: Fic inspired by that creepy version of Do You Want to Build a Snowman going around.
