Prologue:
My name is Alexander Cameron. I have two Magnums, one is a gun and I keep it loaded, the other's a bottle and it keeps ME loaded. I make my living prying into things that others would rather not have me pry into, but I ain't a journalist, I'm a detective, a Private Eye, I make my living by solving things that seem d--- impossible, like a Rubik's cube, or why Barney the Dinosaur is so creepy. Of course, I'M one to talk, I ain't any ordinary gumshoe, I'm a Werelupe, my office is in Neopia Central, nice place, if you can stand the traffic, the noise, the lack of privacy, and the insanity.
Heh, H---, I'm not surprised that I love this place. My father was a gumshoe from the Haunted Woods; my mother was a poor beggar from Darigan's Citadel. I'm half Werelupe and half Darigoni, my blood-red eyes, my purplish flanks and sides signs of my mother's side of the family, my dark-brown chest and muzzle fur, my athletic build, and my 7" height are a gift from dear old dad.
As expected, my looks garner quite a lot of odd glances, so when I got a case to solve, I usually leap first. Just last month, for example, I had gotten a strange letter from a Miss Alyssa Farthington, of Mystery Island. She said that she had heard about my record (I personally brought down Malkus Vile), and she wanted me to come visit her house.
Ah, Mystery Island! Palm trees, sparkling white sandy beaches, clear blue water, beautiful weather, and friendly, quaint natives. Who WOULDN'T want to visit? I, of course, leapt; I wanted to get away from the dull grey drab of the city, and far away from friendly folks like Snake Eyes, Slant, Flint, and Rock, all of whom had a (Literal!) crush on me. Hah, hah, SERIOUSLY! They wanted to see my head on a platter, perhaps with some nice, cheap, $1 wine and a lovely hunk of cheese to go with it.
Going to Mystery Island was the D--- dumbest thing I had ever done! I had to solve a centuries old mystery, stop a power-mad tyrant (Is there any other kind?), save a dead man, and find a missing wreck. Those clear blue water's almost claimed me for good! And the NATIVES were more interested in having me for dinner, SERIOUSLY! I was lucky to survive!
It all started at my office, Thirteen Flotsam Street, Neopia Central…
Finally, I'm back in the game. Chapter three's coming up soon!
