I was absolutely enjoying a fan story based on Sonata. In it, I noticed Beth used the word 'caught' about seeing Mick taste Simone's blood. It was as if she caught him with his hand in the cookie jar. It was an adorable scene, with him acting guilty. He knew she would take it that way. I wonder how she would have reacted if Josef said, "Mick's busy right now. Why don't you take a seat and wait until he's done?" But that would be an alternative story. The other writer challenged me to write it, so here it is.

Beth used her remote key and the door swung open. There were Mick and Josef, and Simone. Simone? Josef was holding her steady and Mick's mouth was pressed to Simone's arm above her wrist. Beth shook her head. What was this - a private orgy? From the look on Simone's face, the lawyer/freshie was blissing out. Mick was absorbed in whatever satisfaction blood drinking gave to vampires. Next time, if there were a next time, she'd remember to knock.

Only Josef noticed her at first. His lips curled upward. "Oh. Hi Beth. We were just having drinks," he said.

Mick lifted his eyes, looking around like the boy with his hand in the cooking jar. Beth heard the word, "Awkward," from Simone's lips. Mick looked down again, and concentrated on his task.

"I love awkward," said Josef. "Listen Beth. We were wondering if Simone's blood matched the blood found on Dominic Michael's body. I told Mick to check. Since he's busy at the moment, have a seat on the couch and wait."

Mick lifted his head from Simone's arm, his lips stained with blood. He wiped it off with the back of his hand and licked his knuckles. "Thank you," he told Simone, and turned to Josef. "B neg. Simone's clear." He turned around. "Oh, hello Beth. Have you been waiting long?"

Beth didn't know whether to be angry or embarrassed. Embarrassment won. "I'm sorry. I guess I should have called before I came." Her face was red.

Mick couldn't help but notice. "That's all right. You smell delicious when you blush."

She turned away, waiting for the flush to her cheeks to subside before she turned back. "That was some strange kind of compliment. You mean your snack wasn't enough?"

"That was business, not a snack. A real snack would be nice. Are you volunteering?"

"Ahhh…"

Josef and Simone were gone, and Mick was all business again. "Do you have any leads you wanted to share?"

"Do you remember the scuffle between Dominic and Hank Bishop?" Mick nodded.

"I thought we might check Hank out at the frat house; see if he was alone with Dominic, or if he saw anything. Do you want to come?"

She turned toward the door, too embarrassed to face him. He followed Beth out, smirking. He chuckled before he closed the door. It was a great view watching her walk toward the elevator. And, Josef thought Mick couldn't handle awkward.
