Disclaimer: I do not own The Vampire Diaries, as much as I wish I did...
Her appearance always hit him like a jolt of electricity. The way her hair fell around her face made him wonder if she would ever see through the disguise that the cockiness of his smirk was. But when she looked at the sorry figure his brother was he doubted that she ever would.
It had been an exhausting game of hide-and-seek with whatever forces the world of the supernatural managed to come up with. In this case, two vampires craving forgiveness, and an original, threatening to destroy them all.
He could still feel the ache that seeing her run down the stairs, only to land in his brother's arms had caused him. The way, he had allowed his hopes to build up, had almost killed him then. And yet, he had come back to her, couldn't stand to walk away from the girl that meant everything to him. He would never forget the way she looked when he told her he loved her. Would always remember how she had unconsciously raised her head to meet his lips when she thought he would kiss her. And yet he could not let her remember. She needed to forget, because around her, he just couldn't be selfish.
"God, I wish you didn't have to forget this." With that, he had taken in the way she looked, knowing the full truth, one last time. Her eyes had been dark with hidden emotions, but also shone bright with the knowledge of his true self. He had seen realization sweep past her, understanding why he wouldn't give her the necklace, and yet, at least so he believed, he managed to catch a glimpse of remorse at what was going to happen.
"But you do." And with that, he had unleashed the power of his eyes, all the while feeling his heart break with the sight of her beautiful brown eyes going blank. Before she had a chance to recover herself and realize who had paid her a visit tonight, he had fastened her necklace around her neck and left her room the way he had come in, through the window.
