A/N: Written for the Digimon Flash Bingo, #822 - character: Nanami
Retired Housewife
When people ask her why such an intelligent young girl is content being a housewife, she says she's had her share of glory and adventure and it didn't turn out quite the way she expected it.
Unless it's Touma. He's smart enough to know the truth. Smart enough to know the longing for adventure, the longing for a challenge, hasn't died. What's out of reach is the person who can give her that challenge and adventure.
He might even say she's in love. And she'll deny it. Not everybody who finds defeat falls in love with the person that defeated them. Though she's not as angry as she used to be. She can give that much. She'd seethed at first. Bested by someone like Daimon Masaru. Bested by someone so inferior. If only it was a genius like Touma, she'd thought. She could have accepted it – but she realised that was a lie. She'd said it herself, in that moment. She could never accept defeat to someone like Touma. They were too similar. And he also could not accept defeat against her, and so he took the only way that meant neither of them would lose. He played a strategy that wasn't his to own.
And she realised afterwards, that that spontaneous might that could beat even the best laid plan, was the force she wanted to fight and win. But then the world was vanishing and she wanted it to stay – for how could she get her victory, her challenge, if the world was gone?
But when the world was repaired, Daimon Masaru was gone.
And so she waited. She settled down because everything else is bland after that. And she's content to wait – because she knows an attempt at something exciting will simply fall short of the mark and it's not worth that.
But when Daimon Masaru or a door to the Digital World appear again, the fire will be enkindled once more.
