Larcissa stared up into the large apple tree that grew in her backyard, her grey eyes fixed on the luscious fruit hanging down. She didn't know there was even an apple tree out here. She and Payton just happened upon it a few minutes ago.

"Climb up there and get me one," Larcissa said haughtily to Payton while pointing into the tree.

Payton glared at him and said, "If you haven't noticed, Larcy, we are very small. We can't even reach the lowest branches."

It was true. They were both 7 years old and definitely too short to reach the first branch. Larcissa thought for a minute before saying, "Lift me up."

Payton rolled his eyes. "There are apples in the kitchen. You don't need these. Come, let's go inside and do something else," he said throwing his body around the blonde haired girl and trying to drag her back to the house.

Larcissa shrugged the boy off. Payton always loved to throw himself on her. She knew he had a crush on her, he made it very obvious, and would use any excuse to touch her. Larcissa loved attention but sometimes it was just overwhelming.

"No, I need those. So lift me up," Larcissa repeated.

When Payton didn't move, Larcissa leaned over and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. She was not above using her feminine wiles to her advantage. "Please?" she asked.

Payton smiled and lifted the girl to stand on his shoulders. "Don't look up my skirt," Larcissa said while pulling herself into tree and ignoring the blushing boy below her.

The branches higher in the tree were much closer to each other. Larcissa reached above and grabbed a couple of apples. She held them to her nose and breathed in deep. She loved green apples.

Payton was looking up at her from the ground, still trying to avoid looking up her skirt. "Here, catch!" she shouted, tossing one to him while taking a bite of his own. Payton caught the fruit and Larcissa picked more and more. They soon had a dozen apples and were both noshing on their second ones.

But now there was a problem. "How do I get down?" Larcissa screamed frantically, fear flashing across her grey eyes. The ground seemed very far away now that she wanted to get out.

Payton bit his lip and looked around. Then he held out his small hands, "Jump!"

Larcissa shook her head, "No, it's too far. Get a ladder or something!"

"There aren't any," Payton shouted back. "Jump!"

Larcissa stepped back on the branch, "I think I'll wait up here," but then she lost her footing and ended up falling out of the tree. She screamed and shut her eyes, her young life flashing before her eyes. She should have probably been nicer to Payton.

Oof! She peeked open one eye and found herself in Payton's arms, a nervous but triumphant smile on face. Larcissa threw her arms around his neck and gave him a big kiss on the cheek, "You saved me! I love you Payton!"

She jumped back and they both blushed at each other. Larcissa cleared her throat and climbed out of his arms. She walked towards the pile of apples and grabbed one while offering one to the boy. "Carry the others." she said before walking back to the house.
