Chapter 1
She was the sunshine, and he was the darkness. She was a Ravenclaw, he was a Slytherin. She had so much happiness, and he had everything but happiness. She was Astoria, and he was Draco.
And they were always meant to be together.

Present day
The Ministry Ball for Memorial Day
"What's that creature doing here?"
"Is that Malfoy?"
"Mommy, why does that man look so sad?"
"Why is a Death Eater like him defiling Memorial Day?"
"He shouldn't be allowed in here."
"Poor woman, that beautiful wife of his."
Whispers and dirty looks followed the pale, blonde, handsome man and his wife as he made his way up to his assigned seat. In Draco's head, the quiet whispers seemed to be magnified to an unbearable extent and he felt he would soon break under the many glares directed his way.
Damn, I shouldn't have taken up Potter's offer.
And just like that, he felt a hand slip into his own. The whispers and looks faded to background noise as he looked up and saw her- the only reason he was here in the first place. Dammit, his Astoria was the only reason he was alive right now. She smiled, a comforting smile, and squeezed his hand, as if to say "don't give up now, Draco."
He wouldn't give up, not when she wanted him to carry on. He couldn't give up, because that would mean denying her something and Merlin knew he'd never been able to do that.
She lead him to their seat, hand still clasped gently around his. The looks abated and Draco finally felt that he had been right in coming here. Settling back into his seat, he felt a tapping on the armrest of his chair and looked on quizzically as Astoria continued tapping, all the while staring at the stage as if she wasn't doing anything.
His brow cleared as he understood- Morse Code! Of course! He remembered it well since the day she had taught him.
And he finally understood the message she was trying to convey to him.
I love you.
He smiled, as his heartbeat accelerated and a feeling of warmth and being loved stole over him. She understood him well, his Astoria. And Merlin, did he love her. His girl. His Astoria.
You too, baby.- he typed out, grinning in a way most people didn't think him capable of.
He felt his attention being jerked back to the stage as Potter ascended the platform to speak.
Potter cleared his throat, and began-
"Today, we are gathered here, friends and acquaintances, ladies and gentlemen, to remember and cherish the memories and lives of those who have martyred themselves for the sake of us being alive and free today. Before the proceedings go ahead, I'd also like to reiterate one trait which our martyrs left us with- forgiveness. In the audience today, we have an ex-Death Eater, one who has now built up a good and successful life from scratch. Please welcome on stage, CEO of the esteemed Greengrass-Malfoy Law Firm, Mr. Draco Malfoy!"
