Chapter 1: the new unit
In 1972 the MASH 5099th was formed. The Vietnam theater was short on medical units because many of the Korean war MASH units had been absolved. The MASH 5099th was stationed two miles from the front.
Hi my name is Dr. John Hawking, Caption U.S. Army, serial number 305592163, or better known as Capt. Hawking some call me hawk for short. I'm one of the four surgeons hear to patch up kids the best we can. The other 3 surgeons that are at the 5099th are Major Ryan Hofferman, Lt. Col. Jack Poler, and Capt. Richard Vaughn. Mjr. Hofferman and I are best friends, and tent mates (don't know what I would do if I was alone in my tent with Richard). Col. Jack Poler is a great surgeon, and are commanding officer. While a good man, he's a fool to put in command of a unit, but we love him, well not all of us namely Capt. Vaughn. Capt. Vaughn is a power hungry monster who should be in an insane asylum. I swear one of these days I'm going to get Ryan to hit him. Sorry let me explain why Richard is what we call a regular army clown. He is in love with the military, and his Country I swear one of these days I'm going to see a wedding announcement in the paper saying he got married to the U.S.A.
We have 13 nurses at the 5099th. First we have are chief nurse Capt. Linda Johnson. She is a great but is exactly like Richard Vaughn. Ryan and I hope to loosen her up meaning make her less strict. The rest of the nurses are Lt. Kim Patterson, Lt. Courtney Singer, Lt. Anna Moore, Lt. Alex Carter, Lt. Megan Booth, Lt. Stephanie Myers, Lt. Elizabeth Hope, male nurse Lt. Spencer Brown, male nurse Lt. Michael O'Connor, Lt. Victoria Kook, Lt. Mary Baker, and Lt. Sydney Myles.
We have some enlisted men who help around the camp. Are company clerk is Srg. Erickson, another regular army clown. We also have Pfc. Butler, Corp. Nass, Lt. Conli(he's not enlisted but he has an enlisted mans job).
