As the dark, oak coffin was lowered into the ground everyone watched, eyes wet with falling tears. The vicar spoke softly, while the coffin was still being lowered. No one spoke; all that could be heard were the soft sobs of friends and family standing around the open grave.
Her Mam and Dad could be heard sobbing. Repeating that she was too young to die, that she had the rest of her life ahead of her. Her best friends could be heard crying over how much they will miss her. Her husband, who stood at the bottom of the grave, was silently crying. He cried over the loss of his wife, the loss of his best friend, the love of his life. But mostly, he cried for the loss of his unborn child.
Then there was him. The man who was recognized by only one other person at the funeral. The stranger stood there, crying without shame at one of his best friends. He had loved her, like a sister. She was one of his family and no matter what anyone thought of him, he always tried to protect his family.
But this time he was too late, and had almost lost all of his family. Almost.

Ianto didn't cry. He could have. Oh, his tears kept threatening to spill from his eyes. But he knew that he had to be strong. He needed to be strong for Jack.
Knowing that she was dead was one thing. But knowing that she had died for his, and Jacks twin sons was... Hard. It was his entire fault. He was trying to protect them all while Jack was on the phone to Martha. The weevil had appeared by the bottom of the invisible lift. She was there, talking to the boys, while Ianto carried their school bags to his desk. He had tried to step in front of her, but she had pushed him and the boys backwards. When he had managed to get up, the weevil was dead, and so was she.

As Ianto tucked Owen and Gray in to bed that night, he told them the story of how their aunty saved the world in a much bigger way than the Doctor ever could.
Once Gray and Owen were asleep, Ianto walked into the centre of the Hub. When he found that Jack wasn't in their room (a storage room which was converted into a bedroom like Owen and Gray's), he looked around the Hub once more; finally finding Jack. He was sitting at her desk, silently crying over some of the pictures that were still on her desk. Ianto walked over, kissed him on the forehead, then walked back to check on their son's. Ianto sensed that Jack needed time alone to cry for one of his best friends and one of his extended family.

Once Ianto closed the door of Owen and Gray's room behind him; he sat in the rocking chair at the corner of the room and just watched. He watched as his beautiful son's slept peacefully, unaware of the pain and sorrow that their Dad and their Tad were feeling right now. Then Ianto finally let the tears spill from his eyes.

An hour later, Ianto had stopped crying. The tracks of dry tears could still be seen on his face. Now Ianto was ready. He was ready to say goodbye to Gwen Williams nee Cooper.
