god damn I have been chugging out random stories lately. Must be a disease. Anyway, hello ~ if any of you have read the comic book series Amulet [and if you haven't, read it, it's worth the five volumes] this is a story about Emily and Trellis, who I think don't get enough love. -3- keep cool.
Chapittierre I
I despise starting stories with this sentence, but for this occasion, I feel it is appropriate:
It was a dark and stormy night. The wind pulled and pushed at the airship and rattled the small rooms. One wouldn't be surprised if they found that Emily was having trouble falling asleep. Finally abandoning her attempt to rest over the screaming of the wind and the clanking of the gears and mechanics, she slipped on her cloak and tip toed silently out of her room, the slightly rusty door moaning as she closed it.
It was freezing outside, but the wind and sudden drop in temperature sparked something in Emily, right down to her now frigid feet. No longer tired, she set off walking around the edge of the airship. She rounded a corner and bumped into Trellis, who was coming out of his quarters. He glanced at her, and said, his voice almost as icy as the wind, "What are you doing out here?"
Emily felt anger bubble in her stomach. Trellis wasn't going to tell her what to do! "I was just talking a walk, thank you very much," she retorted snappishly. Trellis looked satisfied. "Mind if I walk with you?" he asked, smiling. Emily felt something else bubble in her stomach, and it certainly wasn't frustration or anger. She felt like a herd of butterflies had just settled there. She heard Trellis' voice floating towards her vaguely. "Hello? Emily?" She stared into the slanted white eyes of the elf prince, who was obviously confused at her lack of response. Despite herself, Emily blushed, and turned away. Trellis raised his eyebrow and cleared his throat. The slight rasping sound brought Emily down to earth with a hard thump. "Oh. Uh, yeah..." she mumbled, moving forward. Trellis took up walking beside her with a strong stride, which made Emily's quick and childish walk seem silly.
