My first Star Trek fic! I hope you guys like it tell me what you think. Pre Slash.
I own nothing.
Spock could not comprehend it.
The contact between them he had never anticipated. It was nothing more than an innocent encounter, an unconscious gesture.
It would be illogical for Spock to think anything additional of it.
Yet the instant had become ingrained in the half Vulcan's pristine memory, continuing to play repeatedly.
They had been on the bridge when it had occurred, only days after Captain Kirk's induction ceremony. The Enterprise was traveling at a leisurely pace as there was no incident at the present time that required their attention.
One by one Captain Kirk relieved each member of their duty sending them to their chambers to get some well deserved rest.
He let the crew off from lowest ranking member to highest as was protocol, therefore naturally Spock was last to leave as his first officer. He had predicted this.
"Spock?" Kirk had inquired from his position in the captain's chair.
"Yes Captain?"
"You can go to your chambers now. Get some sleep."
"Thank you sir." He had responded before gathering his equipment and turning to exit.
Spock was midway to the door when a hand lightly grabbed his wrist, sliding down due to his previously engaged momentum to grasp onto Spock's, interlacing their fingers.
His breath caught as he stopped abruptly.
Turning sharply he came face to face with Jim who's features held indisputable gratitude.
"I just wanted to thank you Spock. You know, for everything. I was a bit of a dick. You didn't deserve it. I'm sorry."
The sudden change of sentiment to remorse emulated off Kirk and had caught Spock off guard.
"Think nothing of it. I was unfit to serve as captain. You were following protocol." He responded neutrally.
"Still I shouldn't have been so harsh to you. I'm sorry okay?"
"Your apology is then accepted."
"Thanks man."
Jim's eyes drifted from Spock's dark ones to their still interlocked hands. He stared at them for a moment before a look of concern mixed with realization struck him. He released his grip on Spock, with drawing his hand cautiously, allowing their fingers to brush against each other.
The moment the contact was gone Spock let out a barely discernible breath.
"I'm sorry Spock. I know you don't like to be touched. I didn't mean to intrude on your space or anything like that."
The half Vulcan turned to make his exit. "Think nothing of it." He had said, not meeting the Captains eyes again.
Kirk could not have known the effect his actions would have or the meaning behind them. He was unaccustomed to Vulcan ways let alone their forms of intimacy.
His gesture was solely one of focusing attention by human standards.
Jim had even gone as far to ask forgiveness for his actions.
Jim's actions were not what he couldn't grasp.
No, it was his own.
It was why had not broken contact.
He couldn't comprehend why in the moment he had not wanted to let go.
It was illogical.
Well?
