A slight spring breeze rolled through the open windows of Air Temple Island. It was a quiet morning, with only the sounds of the gentle waves brushing the rocks that surrounded the island.

The peace was soon interrupted by a voice, "Kya! You ready? We are fixing to leave!" Aang yelled down the hallway alerting his one and only daughter. The whole family were going out to a nice picnic in the park to celebrate Mother's Day.

"I'm coming, I'm coming" Kya responded defensively as the strutted toward her father, wearing a lacy blue dress that stopped just above her knees. Her hair was slightly curled with a white flower that held a few pieces behind her head.

"Wait…" she questioned as she noticed only her father and brother waiting patiently in the living room, "where is mom?"

A small laugh could her heard behind her, "I am here now, happy?" Katara answered sarcastically as she walked to join her family. "Okay do we have everything? The blanket?"

"Already packed"

"Food?"

"Mom…I think you underestimate my packing skills. But yes everything is packed and ready to go" Kya stated mockingly.

Throwing her hands up as a sign of justification, "I am just making sure we are not missing anything. I want to make sure this picnic is perfect" Katara admitted sensitively.

"And it will be" Aang answers as he wraps his arm around his wife's shoulder, "but I think you are missing just one thing" Aang expressed eagerly as he nodded his head towards the door.

Confused, Katara turned and immediately her heart was filled with love. There standing was her eldest son decked in his military gear, smiling ear to ear and holding a bouquet of flowers.

"Happy Mother's Day, Mom," Bumi exclaimed as he opened his arm wide.

Stunned and speechless, all she could do was sprint to his open arms as her son embraced her welcomingly. Only certain words could be heard due the muffled voice of mix of raw emotions, "I—appy that yo—derstand how you are he—."

"Let's just say I pulled a few strings and was able to leave early. I wanted to surprise you and it just so happened that it could be today of all days." Bumi warmly acknowledged, knowing that this surprise could not have been more perfectly executed.

A few more moments pass as the two finished embracing each other. "I can't believe you are home! Oh I am so happy that you're well, " Katara confessed, "I was getting a little worried about you…after hearing all the stories that were being told about the conflicts I—"

"—Mom," Bumi declared, "I am fine. I know what I'm doing. You raised me well."

She smiled in response, and gleamed at her eldest son. She was always worried about how he would handle not being born a bender in a powerful bending family, but as she looks at him in his military outfit, all she could feel was an overwhelming sense of pride.
