This was actually prompted by a just waking up thought, which are usually quite random and don't make much sense. It started with the first two lines of conversation, and then grew into this within the day I thought of it. This was written months ago, so there are no spoilers at all in this little moment. In fact, there was never any intention of ever having spoilers in this, no matter when I got around to posting it.
It is set way, way into the future, and it might be slightly AU.
You Started It
"Castle! What did I tell you about no water gun fights in the house?" exclaimed Beckett. Her face shows surprise, but her eyes gleam with understanding and laughter.
"He started it!" whined Castle as he pointed to their toddler son. He looks to be about three years old, with thick, slightly wavy, short, chocolate brown hair. He has light green eyes.
"Hey! It was your idea. And you told me not to tell Mommy." said their adorable, yet mischievous, little boy. He takes after Castle in that regard. That's one of the many things she loves about Castle. He raised a now all-grown-up daughter who is starting her own life, and a three year old son, but he still acts like a little kid at times. Sometimes she thinks that she has two boys instead of one. Other times, Castle shows the man that she fell in love with.
"Hmm..." mentioned Beckett as she walked up to her son and took his water gun from him. She has that look in her eyes that she always uses toward him, and only him. Castle has completely left his guard down, wondering what she is going to do next. He likes that she is a mystery that he will never solve. He finds pieces of the puzzle every day, and every time a new piece is left for him to find. Each piece is a surprise, and he loves when Kate surprises him. It's intriguing to him; she is always intriguing to him.
As fast as Beckett's first look came, it got replaced by a much more mischievous one. Without a moment's notice or hesitation, she aimed the water gun and hit Castle square in the chest, soaking his already damp shirt. He looked up at her, 'why?' written on his face, and totally surprised. She sauntered closer to him. Beckett loves to surprise him. She loves the look on his face, the way he stands there in complete shock and awe, the way that she has to make him snap out his trance, and the smile that comes to his face when he does.
"You started it." She said quietly, in the lowered voice she knew he loved. Castle smiled the smile that Beckett loves to see. Then, he showed his signature, more mischievous, smile, and his eyebrows wiggled into an arch, as their eyes met and held their gaze for a couple moments. He loves when she surprises him, and Kate loves to surprise Rick, every time.
